Amazing food, comfy beds, a nice garden to relax in and a very helpful hostess.  The location is good - a 10 minute bike ride to a beautiful lake and about 10 minutes by tuk-tuk to the extensive ruins of Polunnaruwa.  It's about a 1 hour drive to Sigiriya Rock, national parks and other less well known sites which the guest house owners are happy to help arrange trips to.  All at a reasonable price.

We stayed at Singha Guest House (SGH) for 12 nights - Our hostess sorted out all our trips for us, organised safari and anthing additional that we wanted to try (including Sri Lankan beer and Sri Lankan food). The dinners we had there were surperb and were traditional dishes (which we requested) made by our hostess and her mother for us.  Bathrooms and rooms were clean and tidy. The owners were very helpful when advising on dress codes to temples etc. and were happy to show us some of their cultural sites that were way off 'the beaten track'.  They were also happy to discuss Sri Lankan culture, religions, ideas along with sharing additional information regarding the surrounding area and socially acceptable norms and to answer all our questions (of which there were many!).  The facilities at SGH appear to be continiously improving and sitting out in the garden is very relaxing.  If you are willing to take a step out of your own culture and try another whilst you are in Sri Lanka - this is a great place to stay.

Great Place to Stay

Far from the polonnaruwa city but room was perfect and reasonable price.Wifi needs to be improved.Comfortable rooms and clean washrooms.Friendly owner.We arrived there around 10 p.m and all the restaurant were closed but he brought dinner from outside for us(Highly appreciate).

This is a real comment. The owner is smart woman who will charge you 4-5 times more that regular prices. For breakfast you will have prepared/cooked food with only bans and one slice of fruit.

Anything else will be triple charged. If you have for a simple juice or omelette, she will tell you that they don't have. Simply because she buys the food from someone else. 

The lights when off 5-6 times in 2 days.

The rooms are dirty. You can find cockroaches in the bathroom very easily, bees, spiders and other unknown insects. The beds are without sheets, so you have to ask for the luxury to be covered in the night.

Don't rent any trip or excursion from there because the smart woman has a driver that live downstairs that will charge you twice the price and also for the very bad condition bikes

The bill the owner give you is without any explanation and you can't pay with card dollars or euro. 

Basically she treats their guests like rich people and try to scam you with a fake smile.

Because according to her: "Sri Lanka is a expensive country" like Paris she says, everybody needs to know it. Go there if there no options in the surroundings
