This hotel is your only choice if you are looking for a private in San Juan de Ortega.

This is a very small town and when in the square outside the church you could be n the set of a spaghetti western.

The hotel had comfortable beds, a decent bathroom, good WiFi, which is pretty much all you need on the Camino.

The hotel gave us a takeaway day pack for the next days walk which was perfect, in fact better than a breakfast for Camino walkers.



A must stay in St Juan

If you want a private room in San Juan de Ortega, this hotel is your only choice.

It had comfortable beds, a decent bathroom and good WiFi, which is pretty much all you need on the Camino.

Dinner is available at Bar Marcela down the street. Though the set menu only included two options, the food was fine.

The price for the room was good (and didn’t include breakfast, because Bar Marcela is not open for breakfast) and the staff were friendly enough.

Wonderful stay during my camino. Check in was at the bar nearby (Bar Marcela) and the owners were very nice. My room and the bathroom were spacious and clean. Bathtub was truly welcome for a pilgrim with tired feet and muscles. Views from the room was lovely, and the hotel rural itself had a cozy vibe and was quiet. The beds were comfortable. The wifi connection could not be detected in my room but it was fast and stable when I went to the dining area to take a video call.

Wonderful stay during my camino

Very clean and comfortable place to stay in the Camino De Santiago. We were a family group of 8, and the owner was eager to accommodate our requests.  The hotel is linked to Bar Marcela, where we had a simple and delicious dinner. 

The town is very small, but the place deserves a stop to visit the Monastery.

Nice and friendly stay.

The hotel had no staff on site. Guests checked in at a bar about 100 meters down the road and then entered the hotel through the unlocked front door. There is no lift but as my room was only one flight up this wasn't really an issue. The room had twin beds but only one of them was made up. The mattress was a bit lumpy with protruding springs. There were also 2 dining chairs but no other furniture. There were big windows that looked out to the front garden and the street. The bathroom was a good size as was the shower. There had been a cold snap and the heating was switched on which was much appreciated.

The building also had a big common room with tables and chairs and a coffee machine but no kitchen/dining equipment possibly due to coronavirus concerns. There was also an outside patio with a table and chairs but it was too cold for using that day. The wifi didn't work in the bedroom but was good in the common room. 

Although this looks like an older property and seemed a bit aged it was in good condition with no scuff marks or maintenance issues. It was also very quiet. Overall, La Henera was a reasonable place to stay, it just wasn't quite as I had expected.

Strange

Stayed here one night while walking the Camino. Very cute and clean hotel which was very nice No air conditioning or fans (an overhead fan is needed and would have been very nice). Food is limited in this town and breakfast was handed to us the night before — so not very good. Upgrade with fan or a/c and a real breakfast and this place would be great

Camino hotel

We stayed here one night on our walk of The Camino. The hotel was simple but very nice. Room was a little small. We found it a little strange that we had to check in at the bar a little walk down the street. This is also where dinner was served. The owners were very pleasant and helpful. They made a picnic lunch for us for the next day which we appreciated.

Overnight stay on the Camino

If walking the Camino, you need to walk past La Henera to the Bar Marcela to check in. Nice room, quite small but clean. Shower, no bath. Felt like there was under floor heating, so that was nice. Breakfast was provided the night before as a picnic - bottle of water, orange juice, cake, apple, banana, ham/cheese sandwich. There was a coffee machine in the dining room area. The picnic breakfast was great as we wanted an early start. Good wifi in the room. Loved the tiny village. Dinner was at Bar Marcela, it was good but limited choice.

Loved it

We stayed for one night whilst on Camino, the tiny village is in the middle of nowhere. You arrive and find the 'ranch' on your left, continue around 100 Metres to the bar on your right to collect the key. We had an upstairs end room, with a small balcony. There is a communal room with a drinks machine downstairs. We ate in the bar, which you book when you collect the keys to the room. The bar closes at around 9 pm, then doesn't reopen for breakfast until 9 am, so too late for most people. There is a nice café/bar in Ages, a pleasant 3.5 Km walk, mostly through woods. Would definatly stay again, as a great Camino experience.

Really enjoyable stay

Stopped here on our Camino trip. Was a welcome sight after horrendous weather on the way. Room was comfortable enough. Beds weren’t great but it was warm and clean and plenty of hot water. Walls are paper thin. We had dinner at the bar where you collect the keys. There’s not much choice. Omelette or pork chops but it’s fine. They close early 21:00. When we asked what time breakfast was we were told 09:00! Too late for pilgrims. We went to the next village and found a great place there that opened at 07:00.
