Every few years I book a nice long weekend Hiking in the Picos De Europa. This is my third time back to this amazing region of Spain, and all three times I have stayed at the Alto Sella. Its a fantastic hotel, the rooms are perfect and have everything you need, the location is stunning and a perfect base to explore this part of the Picos, in particular the stunning region of Amieva. Its also only a short cab ride from Cangas de Onís. However, that said, what truly makes this place is the owner had his sons. They are just the perfect hosts, and are so pleased to see me and welcome me back with big hugs and are delight to meet my different friends or family I bring along on the trips. Not a word of Spanish is spoken by myself and no English by the guys at the hotel, but that means nothing, with a bit of sign language, pointing, and Google translate, we all are able to get on perfectly, its just great. Proper Spain! No dumb English tourists looking for English bars! Stunning mountain villages, proper rural environment, so of the locals even where clogs! Stunning place, fab people, amazing food. What more could you want.
