We chose this hotel for the price because staying anywhere near Vail is not affordable. We stayed in a room with a king size bed two nights. We were close to a pet room so we heard dogs barking the second night. We could also hear people walking around above us. Be sure to bring ear plugs! The breakfast is decent and the front desk is friendly. We would stay here again.

Good Value

We camped for a very enjoyable two days during the week. Ablutions are clean with plenty of warm water. Steve popped in a couple of times to check on us. Enjoyed his humour.The sites are on green grass with shade here and there, but the trees are growing. We enjoyed walking on the farm and Buster's company. Lovely to hear the Fish Eagles and even saw an Eagle owl. Only "hassle" was the diificulty to knock in our tent pegs, but as campers, this was forgotten the moment you sat down to enjoy the stunning surroundings. A proper hidden gem. Will be back for sure. 😀

Honeymoon

This was a lovely place to stay while attending a wedding - and we got to see beautiful fish eagles in their natural surroundings - a first for me - the hosts are wonderful and the breakfast is served on the patio right next to the river - a bit of a bumpy slip slide of a ride on the gravel road - but a lovely place to stay

Fish Eagles so rare

Just outside the village of Hermon in the Riebeek Valley one would find Fish Eagle River Lodge. A working olive farm, which provides bed & breakfast, camping and self-catering accommodation. The farm is an hour outside of Cape Town just off the R44 before the town of Hermon.

We took to the road after work on Friday and arrived to be greeted by the friendly owners and their dogs. The camp site is situated next to the Berg River with grass sites, pool, electrical points and spacious stands. We were also happy to find a clean and spacious ablution block with showers, toilets and hot water. An honesty shop is also onsite which stocks the basics needed for camp. To note, no children under 18 allowed at the campsite. It is a tranquil space reserved for relaxation and the mature nature lover and no its not a nudist adult camp ☺

The environment is filled with various birdlife and you can enjoy long walks around the farm. The farm is named after the famed fish eagle, which, if you listen very carefully, can be heard flying up above. Being away from all city lights, you get to enjoy the wonder of the clear sky with many stars.

Saturday, we explored the surrounding towns. We purchased our trusty bug killer (a must have for all camps) at the Agrimark in Wellington and visited the Kloovenburg Farm in Riebeeck Kasteel for wine and olive tasting.  You should definitely try the 2016 Sauvignon Blanc……. it’s delicious! We also enjoyed a craft beer & cheese platter tasting.

The town of Riebeeck Kasteel has many shops and restaurants on offer. We popped in at the Red Tin Roof to enjoy an early supper (food is yummy) and watch the rugby before returning to camp.

 All in all one of our favorite camp sites we have been to and definitely one should you want to get away from it all!

Soooo Good!

I was there for the annual Olive Festival and this was great place to stay over for the weekend. Lovely spacious room with a balcony. Great breakfasts and the hosts, Steve and Kay, were very friendly and helpful.

Lovely stay along the river

This B&B is in a lovely position next to the river, you eat breakfast on the covered terrace looking out across the river to vineyards and mountains in the distance. Kay & Steve are both very friendly and make you feel at home.Fantastic value for money.

great position, lovely hosts

My wife booked us a weekend away for our 6 year anniversary in the town of Hermon. We were met by the extremely friendly Kay& Steve and they showed us to our accommodation for the weekend. 

This place ticked all the boxes for us..

2) Aircon 
3) Place to Braai 
4) Swimming Pool 
5) Fishing 

The camp site looks incredible and will most def go there (closer to Winter) :D
