If you are looking for the real Russian experience stay here. It was my first time traveling abroad (I am a private English tutor from South Africa) and I was literally dropped in the deep end of a completely foreign culture. On my first night I had trouble finding the hostel (make sure you print a map to get there) but a local helped me and she went out of her way to make sure that I got there safely. Once I was settled in, the staff and everyone (who were all Russian by the way. There were no foreigners) staying at the hostel warmed up to me very quickly and made me feel incredibly welcome. The beds are extremely comfortable and the bathroom facilities were very clean and modern. The best part are the markets, deli's and restaurants, as well as a small supermarket close-by. The only drawback is that no one at reception speaks English and I had some trouble with the WIFI.
