The hotel is in an old building, located near the old city, where is short walk from Coimbra A train station (there are three train stations in Coimbra, this one is near city center), if one take bus to get there, it will take about 20 minutes walking from bus terminal. From hotel, one can walk to the university & other sites. The boss is a friendly guy. We stayed at top floor, the roof is lean, & the room is a little bit crowded, there are one double bed & one single bed, so it is suitable for a family. There is heating system inside room, in winter time, guest will not feel cold. The low price (18€ per night) is good for budget travelers.

Nice & Good Location

Very central, clean and cheap. The rooms have a private bathroom with bidet (Italian people's dream) and shower, the heaters and the air conditioning. There's no much more to say, the furnishing is essential but it works well for a few days staying, having paid just 10€\night\person.

Nice alternative to an hostel

Nicely situated at the bottom of the old town. The reception isn't at the entrance of the building, but is accessible via a flight of stairs. The building has a certain charm about it. We stayed on the first floor which has a large "commons room" with TV and comfy chairs and sofa. Wi-fi is accesible there, not in your room.There appeared to be a kitchen and small eating area for guests to use. The rooms were simple and clean. Next to the hotel there is a modern, large café serving Portuguese pastries and coffee and at noon you can eat cheaply as there is a self-service dining area serving basic dishes. Parking is a problem. There is an underground car park next to the hotel. A bit expensive though. Ask at reception for a ticket costing 2€50 for over night parking upto 10 in the morning. It's for another car park behind the hotel. Stay any later and you pay extra.

Old hotel/hostel with charm

This budget old hotel is located right in the center of Coimbra. 5 minutes in different directions to the railway station and 10 minutes to the bus station. The main attractions are within a few hundred meters. The room is very simple, the window is small. Whitewashed walls, laminate flooring-traditional design in Portugal. The carpeting in the hallway and the bracing steps on the spiral staircase made it feel like we were back in the Salazar era, which fortunately we had never been in. This, however, does not detract from the advantages of the hotel, but adds a certain charm. Although not everyone will like it...

Cheap old hotel with excellent location.

We experienced an uncomfortable welcome when we were again asked to confirm for the third time, if us (a same sex couple) have really booked a double room. We were then pointed in the direction of our room, not shown. Unlike other guests. Once we were in the room, a member of staff abruptly tried to enter the room without knocking, we had luckily locked it from the inside. Great start. Then the noise, the building is lacking any kind of soundproofing (inside and out) and the minimal effort from staff to keep the noise down. Over a 4 night stay, we saw 5 different members of staff and not the same one twice. We returned at 1am on Friday night after seeing Fado. To find the hotel locked up, we only had a key to our room and had to ring the bell to be allowed back in. We were then reprimanded by an unhappy nightguard because we hadn't left our key at the front desk when we left for the evening "for fire safety reasons", we insisted that we hadn't been informed of this and apologised. Also, the place was falling apart in general, in our room fittings were filled with silicone, the bathroom shelf was loose, cigarette burns on the furniture, the door wouldn't lock properly, random electric box... 
If we hadn't unfortunately paid in advance, we would have left.
So overall, it was a terrible stay. I would have given a lower score if it wasn't for the location.

Disappointing...

Cleaning could have been done... Dripping sink. Noisy. Should be worth 10€\ppl. They also have useless furniture in corridor almost blocking access to the bedrooms :D not recommended for mobility disabled ppl.
