This is a quite good hostel, clean, kind staff, good internet connection, cable tv, hot water. Right hand insider room preferable as for a school beside. There is no heating but blankets can be used. The location is quite convenient to plaza de armas and bus route to the airport or mirador.

I would not recommend this place for two reasons. First, I was woken up at 6.00am by the loud TV blaring from the reception desk. In my room I could hear every detail of the early morning Peruvian national news programme - the problem was that I would have preferred an extra hour's sleep. Second, when I paid the bill on arrival, the receptionist did not have change and said he would give it to me later. This never happened, despite me politely asking for it on two more occasions. The last occasion was when I handed in the key on leaving and again he said that he would find me the change but he did not have it. I mention this, not because I am stingy but because it is most unprofessional behaviour and I noticed that it also happened to other visitors to the hostel. So these are my reasons for not recommending the Karol to you.

Keep the noise down please!

Our stay here was fine but a little disappointing after our initial research. On booking.com it said they had parking and a kitchenette, but when we arrived there was no parking and the kitchenette wasn't for use by the guests. Free breakfast was ok but rather slow and disorganised and the bathroom in our room gave off a mild smell of sewage. Beds were comfy and staff were fine, just not quite the standard we were expecting.

Adequate

Hospedaje Karol is a very dull, cold and unfriendly place. Staff did not speak a word of English, organisation was extremely poor - they spent 20 minutes trying to find my booking! My room looked like a prison cell - empty with no character and no natural light. The shower was cold. The man at the reception overcharged me go the room (some 15 soles). When I asked if they could call me a taxi, I was told they would not do it! Extremely unhelpful.
I do not recommend this place - it's awful.

What a Horrible Place

The staff at this hotel are excellent and really kept the place clean.  Although the hotel advertises that there is hot water, I did not have hot water during my stay.  The hotel is clean but one night there was no water so the shared bathrooms were especially bad with the smell of overnight use.  The price of the hotel jumped for this holiday week and the price was at least 3 to 4 X what should be paid for a hostel like this.
