Haukeland - Hospital Area

Don't take any notice of the comments about this being a hospital hotel. It is barely noticeable. The hotel operates entirely as a normal hotel and is not even on the same site as the hospital! The only thing you notice is a few folk on zimmer frames but there are many other guests staying who are in excellent health. It is a little outside the centre of town but that makes it beautifully quiet and it is still easily reached in about 7 minutes by public transport (choice of bus or tram). Buy your tickets for this in Narvesen newsagents otherwise the bus driver will try to charge you a lot more if you buy them in the bus (I know - mean and unfair!!). Excellent choice of foods for breakfast in the hotel. Maybe just add in some white bread. It was all brown without exception! Rooms are slightly sparse but totally adequate and, being a hospital hotel, supremely clean! Good bathroom with lovely new spacious shower. Also very helpful and friendly reception staff, especially Ingrid, who assisted me wtih a few minor things I needed. Only one negative - wifi is only available in the lobby, which surprised me. It was good and fast but it is rather old-fashioned these days to not have it in the rooms. Not sure why this was and I think this could be addressed. Otherwise a perfectly good base, and let's face it, in a city as lovely as Bergen you are not going to be in your room much!
