After 12 weeks of travelling through Mexico, Guatemala and Nicaragua our stay in room 6 at Hostel Javier 2 was lovely. We had booked only for 2 days but ended up staying for 8 days. As like most of Central America the neighbours were noisy and started music at 5.45am, the roosters crowed all the time and the dog barking was manic especially when the power went out for one night all night. The neighbours car alarm went of at least twice aday. No hot water (but getting a hot shower in central america is few and far between) and it only came out as a furious dribble. The general house was cleaned daily though probably not to most westerners standards, the kitchen was abit grubby but had everything you needed and lots of space. The back yard was off limits (it was not properly secured I think?) but had potential to be quite lovely. Plenty of room in the lounge downstairs - where there is three double bedroom and the shared bathroom. We were upstairs, where there is three double bedrooms with private bathrooms and the outside deck area which was quite pleasant. Our room was very spacious, with a very comfortable slat bed - (the sheets didn't fit so well, so they did tend to come of during the night), a good size desk to work from (we grabbed a chair from the deck to sit on), wifi was very good, wardrobe and a couple of other side tables, a tv which we didn't even turn on but best of all we had windows that could open out to the back yard - which was quite nice as there was a big tree to look at and if no one was around upstairs we could leave the front door open as well which gave us a lovely feeling of our own space.Our room was cleaned only once, but I'm sure if you ask the cleaner (you must be there while they clean) to remove the rubbish bin etc they will.  There is no physical security, cleaner comes once a day, Hostel Javier 1 is only a 5 min walk away and Javier Snr who owns the hostel normally pops in once a day to check on everything or more if he is dropping of guest, which he does on the back of his motor bike. Javier and Javierette, his daughter who speaks English fluently are both helpful, friendly and wonderful hosts. Javier gave us a couple of Hostel Javier t/shirts - which we will wear quite proudly and we will highly recommend a stay especially if you get room 6.

We got the best room

We arrived here after 10 mins of trying to find it with our taxi driver, to then be told by a girl coming out of the hostel that we needed to check in at hostel 1 as this is where you get your keys! This is only in the small print on Booking.com.. As well as the fact the breakfast is also served at hostel 1. This was missed off the info on Booking.com and they tried to tell us we were lying when we had a screen shot of it not on there! 

We got up on our first morning to make our own breakfast and the kitchen was covered in dead bugs, there were cobwebs everywhere and we had 1 bowl, there were no knives or big spoons! The kitchen was not fully equipped and the cupboards were a mess and even the cutlery tray had dead bugs in! 

We addressed this with Javier and his daughter as well as that we had no toilet roll (I assume you have to ask for this at hostel 1 as no one comes to clean the second hostel and manage the upkeep) and they just wouldn't accept what we were saying, they didn't apologise and just say, 'no problem, we'll sort it'. Instead, it was if you want better service go to a hotel, and we don't want your money, you're more than welcome to find somewhere else!!! 

All we wanted was some knives, a spoon and some toilet roll!

Our room was also full of cobwebs, dead bugs, and our toilet bin wasn't emptied for the 4 days we stayed.

The house is nice and the common area has lots of space. There is a good kitchen with all things you need. Unfortunately the neighbor loved play music at 5:45 in the morning, every day. For this reason we left tho go somewhere else. Breakfast is pancake every day

Good house but noisy neighbours

The location is perfect, the owners amd family are all wonderful and friendly. Only the daughter speaks English so was a good chance for us to practice some Spanish. If the older gentleman was Javier, he's an absolute hero. Seeing him asleep in a chair or drinking wine with a friend really made me laugh/ feel at home.

The breakfast was amazing!! Fresh fruit and pancakes with a delicious cup of coffee.

The room was clean but really odd, It wasn't a problem, the room came with a shower and toilet which were separated from the room by a series of pipes with hung blinds/ curtains. It made us laugh but of course they were practical. There were a number of other toilets to use so no one was woken up to a stinking room!!

The TV didn't work (might as well get rid of it to save space) and the wifi didn't work in the room. You also couldn't pay on card (according to booking.com we should of been able to)

However for the breakfast alone I'd stay again!!
