We live in Matagalpa, so this review is not for the hostal, but for the churros. They are amazing and very affordable! We bought a bag of 7 hot, crunchy and sugary bites of goodness for $C100 ($3.17). They even deliver! Can't say enough, and being from Texas originally, we know churros! 

CHURROS, CHURROS, CHURROS

Last week Martina's Place served as "home base" for our Medical Mission team from Upstate New York. We had a team of 22 people and rented the facility for the week to house our team. The owner Pedro and his family were on site the entire week and ensured all of our needs were met. The rooms were comfortable, clean and each had an adjoined bathroom. Our team was served breakfast and dinner daily in the outdoor courtyard and the food was freshly prepared and sourced locally. The location is convenient and there are many stores and cafes within walking distance. One of the most popular amenities was the self-serve "magic fridge" located in the courtyard that was stocked with cold beer and soda at all times. Simply slip $1 in the bucket on top and sit back and enjoy! Our team will certainly be back next year and we thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality.

Perfect Rx for Medical Mission Team

Nice location and all the basics were there, but nothing more really. For us the place lacked character and the extra touches that elevate a place. I’d say you won’t go terribly wrong here, but I’d look around more. 

Somewhat disappointed 

We stayed here for 3 nights and it was okay.  Dorm beds were comfy but they were $8 a night and there were over 20 people in the one dorm so it was very noisy and I think overpriced. Breakfast is provided which is great except it is literally one tiny pancake so not really enough. The family running it were absolutely lovely though!! Overall it's a nice place but breakfast needs to be bigger and I don't think the price should be so high for such a massive dorm room.

Basic place to stay

When we arrived the man helping us walked to our room, opened the door and walked back to the front desk, where he still showed no signs of being friendly, not even a smile or warm greeting whatsoever,  then I handed him passports and when he was done he gave them back and walked away without another word. Poor communication from the get go. Not a good first impression. Our room and bed was comfortable. Bathroom just fine. No complaints about that at least. In the morning a little after 8, during their breakfast time, there was no staff to be found. Had to ring a bell at the front desk and the man came out from a room. No big deal, but there's hardly anyone around, seems that nobody else was there but us. We told him we wanted two orders of one breakfast and one order of the other. He said that we only get two free breakfasts because we only paid for two people in our private room. Even though we have a child. He is technically "free" to stay in our room because he's under a certain age. So we only got two breakfasts and shared them. We waiting for our food in their courtyard out back. We saw two other travelers out there. one who was trying to utilize the stove at the kitchenette. She couldn't find a lighter or matches. Asked the guy at the front desk but she came back empty handed aa he was of no help.  The young lady who brought us our food was by far the friendliest staff member we encountered. We booked two nights through booking.com and after not having a pleasant experience we decided it's best overall for our family to leave before 10 (check out time) and move on to somewhere else. I told the man at the front desk that we are checking out. He said that we booked two nights so we can't leave and he quickly grabbed the assistance of a woman (never seen or talked to her personally). She aggressively and in a hostile way approached me with anger saying that I can't leave because we booked two nights. I stood my ground and said that we are not staying another night. She continued to aggressively talk to me with the most disrespect I've experienced from any person at a hotel/hostel EVER. They're clearly upset that we're not staying a second night because they are too concerned about the money. They clearly have horrible customer service skills. I told them they can't force me to stay another night and she said if I don't pay for both nights that she is called the police. We ended up paying them what he had on us. Which was $60 US dollars, and left. I don't know if I've ever met people so money hungry and greedy. Knowing that they are going to rent out that room and make money on it after we paid them for it is better than having to stay there another minute. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE.  So many other options around here.
