Our family spent a week here between Christmas and New Year's. Wonderful staff, Mexican breakfast included, beautiful and quiet courtyard to relax in, comfortable beds, a little away from the Zocalo and other attractions but all within walkable distance depending on your mood. We walked and we used cabs. Would definitely go back.

I just stayed here for a week during Dias de los Muertos and Posada de Chencho was one of the few places available that I found.  What a nice surprise it was.  Toño and Flor are so very lovely and helpful in every way.  My Spanish was lacking but I really didn't need to ask for much.  The breakfasts were outstanding.  Every morning we had seasonal fruit, fresh bread and a special egg dish of some sort... all very delicious.  Oh and I forgot about the hot chocolate!

The rooms are very basic but very clean.  There wasn't a room safe, per se, but a lockable cabinet for valuables.  Water pressure is lacking but the water was at least hot.  If we showered at "off" hours, I would always make sure with Toño that the hot water was turned on.

The hotel was fairly quiet, as it is outside of the center (about a 15-20 minute walk. 
 If you need a taxi, it's a 5 minute drive into the centro for about 50-60 pesos.)...except for that day when the comparsa ended up right outside (or close to the hotel) at 3:30 AM!  

There was also a pretty patio area and hammocks where you can relax when you're not out touring about.  The rooms do NOT have air conditioning, only a fan.  It seemed to not be an issue as the windows don't face the outside where the sun can come in and heat up a room. (most face the courtyard)

Highly recommended. Also they only take cash, so be aware.

My friend and I loved our stay here!  It’s an easy walk to the town center, the main market and other great neighborhoods. The owners and staff were so helpful and friendly.  The breakfasts are fabulous and we had a different typical Oaxaca’s dish each day. The setting is lovely with the central garden area and beautiful colors. We went on two different tours coordinated through the staff that were filled with interesting activities at a very reasonable cost. I definitely recommend La Posada de Chencho!

We loved this place!! The staff was amazingly welcoming, the rooms were comfortable and clean. They were a bit away from the action, but for us, this was a good thing, nice and quiet with a neighborhood feel. From the moment we walked in, they made us feel at home, helping us with luggage, directions, tours, kindness, and great humor. The breakfasts, omg the breakfast, everyday a different local specialty along with fruit coffee and the awesome Oaxacan chocolate drink that kept you sustained until dinner. Any foodie would be a fool to stay elsewhere. Also the garden was super lush and filled with flowers, birds and butterflies, not to mention lots of out of the way places to lounge outdoors, and hammocks!!.The whole place had an amazing vibe. My husband and I cannot wait to return for another visit. Oaxacan hospitality at its best. Ten stars!!

Posada de Chencho is a sweet little family-run B&B in Oaxaca City. We've stayed there three times and each visit has been delightful. Chencho's son, Tono, runs the Posada, which includes a wonderful Mexican breakfast. The place is peaceful with a lovely courtyard, and is in easy walking distance of the Xocolo. Can't say enough good things about Chencho's.   

This is a family owned and run hotel slightly out of the main hustle and bustle of the town center. Other than the endlessly noisy streets, the hotel itself was an oasis of peace and quiet. The breakfasts were great and service very friendly. As a non-Spanish speaker I managed to get by with little problem. The rooms were comfortable enough, although not luxurious. I specifically enjoyed room 19 overlooking a back lane rather than into the central courtyard. The room was sunny and bright in the mornings. The hotel is about a 10-15 minute walk to the town square, close enough to make walking a breeze and far enough away to feel I was getting out of the constant business of Oaxaca City.  I would be happy to stay here again on a return visit.

A good hotel. Not vey conveniently located, but secure, clean, accommodating and includes breakfast. The only downside I did not like is that as a guest I had to ring the door bell to get into the hotel.
