Joanna was so welcoming from the moment we arrived. We booked for 1 night but ended up staying 5 as it was so lovely! There is free tea/coffee/water/sweets all day/night and the beds are super comfortable, I slept so well the whole time. The place is quiet and has small but really lovely and clean chilled out areas. Would definitely recommend to stay here!

Such comfy beds and a homely atmosphers

I just checked out of the lovely four-person dorm and have to say it was one of the better rooms I’ve stayed in SE Asia. Thick, comfy mattress and comforter, super-powered aircon, quiet and convenient. The owner is super friendly and understanding and the place has a cheerful vibe. I would definitely stay here again. 

Cozy, peaceful room 

중국 명절과 겹쳐서 모든 숙소가 굉장히 비싼가격이라 그나마 저렴한 방으로 찾았어요. 중심가까지는 15-20분 걸어야 하지만 방도 깨끗하고 침대도 매우 편안했고 샤워할때도 불편한 없었습니다. 호스트도 매우 친절하구요. 그러나 약간의 알수없는 냄새가 좀 났는데 익숙해지면 괜찮았습니다! 방이 너무 어두운게 아쉬웠어요.

The room was clean and cozy, bed was very comfortable so i didnt have any problem with this guesthouse. but one thing, the light was very weak so after sunset the room was very dark.. The host was also very helpful and favorable. It could be a little bit far to downtown and night market (15-20min), but it was ok.

We arrived late (after 9PM), and found a nice note from Joanna (the owner) with the key to our room. We had a twin room with two 120cm beds. The room is very clean, beds and pillows are comfy, bathroom all fine. And an important fact that you only realize when you dont have it: plug-in insect repellent in your room is already plugged in. Downside (unrelated to the guesthouse): couldnt open the windows because of the neighbors cooking smell.

Whilst in Luang Prabang we stayed at Muenna 1989 Guesthouse for a total of 6 nights in the 4 bed mixed dormitory.

 Muenna Guesthouse is located within 1.1 km of Mount Phousy and 1.2 km of Night Market. The property is close to several noted attractions, around 1.3 km from National Museum and around 1.9 km from Wat Xieng Thong. Plenty of good restaurants in the surrounding area. The nearest airport is Luang Prabang International Airport, 4.3 km from Muenna 1989 Guesthouse.

Staff are friendly. However you will find it very difficult communicating as they don’t speak English and sometimes they do not understand google translate. Our check-in was a little slow was we already made a down payment and had to pay the rest at the time of check-in, however the communication barrier make it a slow process.

This property is clean in my opinion, dorms are clean and tidy, linen is also clean from my experience, clean towel is provided, bathroom and showers are always kept clean.

The biggest negative at Muenna Guesthouse is the WIFI practically doesn’t exist in the dormitory. Always dropping out and one of the slowest I’ve experienced. So you will have to use the wifi in the common room.

Comfortable and clean, cheap accommodation. I am happy to recommend Muenna 1989 Guesthouse in Luang Prabang for all backpackers.

Comfortable, Cheap And Clean

We’d booked this hostel on hostel world a week in advance and when we arrived the man at the reception who couldn’t speak any English was very confused and could t find our booking, after ringing his boss and me speaking on the phone he’d explained they’d messed up our booking and the hostel was full (not what you need after the tiring slow boat we’d been on for 2days) anyway the shy man took us to a hostel room and pointed at the lower bunk bed (I think he wanted me and my boyfriend to share the lower bunk) considering we’d paid for two beds in a hostel I said no! He then took us to a room which had a ‘managers’ sign on the door moved a couple things around made the beds and that was it we had a bunk bed in what I can only explain to be the managers/laundry/staff sleeping area room, over the 5 nights we stayed the staff seemed to come and go as the pleased getting showers using the bathroom and moving things from draw to draw (at 7am in the morning this was very annoying) anyway we had a room to ourselves when we was expecting to be sharing with 2 other people so it wasn’t too bad! The over all experience was just very odd and we couldn’t settle as we didn’t know if we was coming or going! Oh and also they didn’t give us a key so our belongings were always in there unlocked! Very odd!
