We enjoyed our stay here. It's a bit dated and needs an upgrade. However, great service, great food, and lots of choice. The accommodation is spacious with a balcony. Lots of choice for food, very friendly staff. There is plenty of wildlife to see on the safaris.

Samburu Sopa Review 

We had the most amazing time at Sopa Samburu, we even extended our 4 night stay to 5 nights! We have a 3 yr old and a 5 yr old, they loved every minute. We had a good deal, and an extra 10% off booking through booking.com. 
Nothing was too much for the staff, they worked long hours and were always smiling, on standby for our every need. The food was fantastic - huge variety in the buffet for each meal - the fruit was perfect, the 'protein' options always delicious. The dining area water hole was always busy with guinea fowl, dikdiks, warthogs, jackals, francolin, zebra, impala. Hornbills and birds were everywhere especially at the dining area. Sopa Lodge also has a 'resident' bull elephant called Lenakai who visited a few times while we were there, he was wonderful! We didn't even need to leave the lodge!  The swimming pool was well kept and wonderfully cold - so refreshing in the Samburu heat. The beds were comfortable, lots of pillows, bathroom very clean, good shower water pressure and immediate hot water, 4 bottles of drinking water given to our room each day. Wifi is only around the main reception area and not in the rooms, but the speed was good. The electricity runs off a generator which is turned off between 11.30am and 5.30pm but when I needed anything charged or wanted to get some work done using the internet I was welcomed to sit with the Sopa staff in their main office!
We requested picnic breakfasts two mornings - we each got a lovely box with fruit, yoghurt, sausages, bacon, juice, jams toast, and wooden cultery! All meals and picnic boxes are cater-able to your diet requirements. 
The security night watchmen were so helpful, carrying our kids to our room when we arrived late after a long game drive. On our last night the Kitchen Staff prepared a small cake and the dining staff came out singing with it as a thank you to us for extending our stay! 
It has been a wonderful week surrounded by Samburu magic - thank you Sopa Samburu! We'll be back!

5 wonderful nights at Sopa!

The room was great, clean and comfortable. The food was good. However when we ordered cocktails there was a lot of confusion amongst the staff and the drinks we were served after a long wait were not good

We had stayed here for 2 nights during our Kenya / Tanzania trip in Aug / Sep 2024 and enjoyed every moment - thanks to our trip guide and driver as well as the nice and well mannered staff of the Soap Lodge. We drove from Nairobi after breakfast a bit early and it was a 6.5 hours drive though the road is good till you take turn for Samburu from the main road. On our way we stopped at the Equator and visited some shops. We purchased a few mementoes but you must bargain quite well keeping in mind the relative Purchasing Power Parity theory of comparing per capita income (USD). You must shamelessly quote your price as low as possible if you want to buy the stuffs. The road is bad once you move towards Samburu though a little better road to traverse within the game sanctuary. The drive from the entry gate is about 1 hours or so to reach the lodge. The lodges have been inside the game reserves and free movement of animals is the norm. The rooms are good and well maintained. The food is also good. They do not provide drinking water in the dining hall at the time of lunch or dinner and you have to buy the same. Better carry the bottles from your vehicles as sufficient rent water is stored for guests in the vehicle. We took multiple game drives and saw many varieties of animals including big 5s. The staff are extremely nice and on our request they changed our room after one day. We enjoyed our stay. Thanks to our guide, Mr. Henry Ayega, +254 722 741223 we had a great time in seeing animals.

Great Place inside Samburu

The buffet food was excellent and we were full board. Staff and service could not be faulted. All were lovely, attentive and helpful. The dining and lounge areas are fantastic. 
The lodge is right in the middle of the reserve so the sounds and sights were amazing. 
The downside were the rooms. Clearly the economic downturn has taken a toll. The rooms we were given had not been maintained which meant there were spiders in the bathroom and some fittings had come off exposing rusted nails. The mirror lights were not working. The manager did apologise for this.

Stay in the wild.

Everything was great! The Staff go out of their way to make each guest feel welcome. Great food, advice when self-driving and they helped us when we had car troubles.

Great place to stay to explore the abundant wildlife in the park. Very friendly and helpful staff, good buffet meals, with takeout boxes available for early starters

Good choice for staying in the park

The lodge is inside the National Reserve and the rooms are in the style of Cottages/Pods .  They are very spacious with two double beds, separate bathroom, dressing table, wardrobe, safe and private terrace with lovely views.  The beds were very comfortable with plenty of bedding and pillows.  Bathroom was spacious with lots of toiletries and towels.  Each cottage is accessible along a paved walkway, not far at all from the reception area.  NB: there are no hairdryers and if you need constant electricity (for CPAP users) you need to alert reception upon arrival as a small number of rooms have solar power for overnight electricity.

The public areas such as bar, restaurant and pool are very spacious and comfortable.  A nice place to relax whilst waiting to go on game drives or for a drink before and after dining.  The food is served buffet style and there is plenty of variation with two hot soups to choose from to begin at both lunch and dinner.  Breakfast is served buffet, lots to choose from and live egg cooking to your choice. 
 The staff are exceptional.  Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and accommodating.  

This is my second visit to Samburu Sopa and I’m pleased to say it’s every bit as great as my previous visit.  I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here.  The views are great and I particularly enjoyed the visit from the two genet cats at dinner!

Excellent Lodge and Great Staff

Our stay at this family-friendly hotel was marked by delightful experiences, heightened by breathtaking views and an immersive wild setting. The customer service, while generally commendable, exhibited some delay in addressing specific queries. A minor setback was observed with the pool, as it was only half full due to a leakage issue.
Regrettably, the New Year's dinner and crossover activities on December 31st fell below our expectations. We would have preferred Samburu dancers for their kid-friendly appeal. However, it should be noted that the entertainment catered to those who enjoy alcohol and disco.
Despite these minor drawbacks, our overall experience was positive, especially considering that this visit marked our return after a decade. The charm of the location and the family-friendly atmosphere contributed to a memorable stay.
