Guesthouse Yakushima

A family run guest house. I was staying in a tatami room with toilet. Shower and large bath are shared. 
15min drive from airport. The guest house is simple but clean. The meals are excellent with different main course every day. The large bath house with ocean view is relaxing after long hike. The owner is super nice, trying to explain every dish even though I only know limited japanese. 



I love this guest house, especially the cats. The owners are very hospitable and welcoming and they had so many different dishes to try. When I told them I didn't eat meat, they didn't fuss and I got alternatives. I would stay here again

Serious hikers stay at Manmaru Yakushima guesthouse for it's easy access to some of the most famous hiking trails in Japan. This guesthouse is noted for its spectacular Japanese tea style 12 course diner and the wonderful knowledge by the owners of the famous hiking trails as one of the owners is a former guide. The highest point on the island is Miyanoura-dake at 1,935 metres (6,360 ft). It is covered in dense forest noted especially for old growth Cryptomeria trees known as Sugi in Japan and magnificent Rhododendrons. Miyazaki's film Princess Mononoke was filmed in these forests.

It's simple room, but tidy! Even though simple, but still have wifi, let u Connect to the world! The most attractive me is their meals, excellent !

While I told them, I m vegetarian, they try to put many efforts to let you have unforgettable meals!

The guesthouse is very close to the Anbo port, also nearby the supermarket, so, location is good!

We enjoyed our 3-night stay here at Manmaru.  The guest house is running by a family of four.The room is not big but clean.  The mini Kaiseki style dinner and breakfast are excellent.  It is only 150 steps away from beach.  My wife and I walked to beach every morning before breakfast  to enjoy the sunrise and quietness of the island; we did not see anyone there 3 mornings in a row. Actually, you could hardly see any people on the island once you are out of main towns.  The big bath house facing the ocean (although not hot spring) is very comfortable.  It renewed our energy after long hikes in the mountains.The daughter, Hisae, spoke great English and very caring, but she will be leaving Japan to join her husband in the summer.  We are so glad that we found this place for our last stop for our Japan trip; the feeling here is much better than those commercial hotels in Tokyo or Kyoto.  Slow down your pace, spend a few days here and enjoy the nature, you will feel the magic of the Yakushima.

I loved to spend 3 nights in Manmaru. Very closed to the beach and easy to access the attractions in Yakushima.
Every meals are delicious and so nice. Main dishes are fish, cooked Japanese style. 
Room is basic but enough for me.
There is Ofuro (large bath house) to refresh after whole day walking or trekking.

Charming Guest House

Excellent food and friendly owner

They served meals and that was about it; everything else was pretty much self-serve. The room was basic, just big enough to fit 2 people, definitely too small for 3 guests, and there was nothing besides a toilet and a sink, not even hot water. There was no service, basically laying our bedding over tatami and keeping the room clean and emptied the trash ourselves. Only one onsen shared by men and women, so men and women needed to wait for their turn. However, there was a show in the main building. Standard Japanese breakfast and dinner, quality was good, but nothing to write home about. There was a laundry machine but not dryer, so we had to line dry our clothes. This was problematic because it rained in Yakushima all the time (people joked that Yakushima rained 366 days a year).
