We loved this ryokan outside of Kurokawa onsen village. The food was fabulous, especially breakfast. They even had an espresso machine (but everything else was very traditional). For the price you get more than you pay for. We had rented a car so the distance was not an issue. 

Great experience for the price.

장점(Pros)
- 고속버스같은 대중교통을 이용한다면 료칸이 바로 쿠로카와 온천역 가기 한 정거장 옆에 있으니 도착하기 용이함(If you use a public transport like express bus, it may be easy to arrive because it's very near to Shirakawa bus station, which is just before the final destination Kurokawa bus station.)
- 직원은 친절한 편(Staff was quite friendly.)
- 음식은 나쁘지 않았음(Meal was not bad.)
- Hot spa was nice.

단점(Cons)
- 편의점이 근처에 하나 뿐임(There is only one convenient store nearby the spa hotel.)
- 일본어에 능통하지 않다면 의사소통이 어려울 것임(If you are not good at Japanese, it may be hard to communicate.)
- 시설은 대체적으로 오래되어 보수가 필요함(Facility was little bit old, so it could be better.)

재방문 의사 있음(If there is a chance again, I will book this spa hotel again.)

Seems traditional, but could be better

My wife and I were looking for a ryokan over New Year's weekend and had a very difficult time finding availability even though we began our search almost a year ahead of time.  We were able to find this place on Booking.com, and overall it was a good stay.  We had taken the bus from Fukuoka, and the last stop before Kurokawa Onsen actually drops you right at the ryokan.  We didn't know this, so from the final bus stop, we walked into town to the tourist office.  They called the ryokan and the owner came and picked us up.

The room was larger than I expected (we booked a superior room), and there was the sleeping area, eating area, plus a small private onsen for our room.  Unfortunately there was no real comfortable sitting area in our room to relax.  Even though it was the middle of winter, we felt the room was warm enough (contrary to some other reviews).

The location of the ryokan was a bit far from town.  This meant either getting a taxi (which was not easy), or the owner had to drive us in.  This really wasn't convenient or practical for either of us.  In nice weather, you could probably walk it in half an hour, but not ideal in the winter.

The food was fantastic.  While it was very seafood-heavy, both the breakfasts and dinners provided were extravagant and impressive.  We could barely finish what they gave us!

Communication was a challenge during the stay.  The owners spoke limited English, and my low-level Japanese didn't get us very far.  We made it work more or less (and there was a very helpful Chinese staff member who spoke some English), but it was difficult at times.  

The accommodations weren't cheap, and having seen some of the other ryokans in town (for similar prices), we'd probably have preferred one of those.  It wasn't a bad stay, and if you have a car and speak Japanese, it could be a great stay.  Just keep those items in mind if booing.

Decent ryokan with some caveats

Writing on behalf of my parents who stayed with the Ryokan Yunosako. 
They were extremely pleased with the hosts who went truly out of the their way to make their stay a comfortable one. We had encountered some communication difficulties, but the hosts were very accomodating and patient with us. 

Would return with the whole family in future! Truly enjoyed our stay. 

Extremely hospitable and patient hosts

This is a nice Ryokan, a bit far from the center of Kurokawa-Onsen village, accessed by car from either the internal (narrow) road of Kurokawa-Onsen, or from the main road 442.
The point is that the room was cold (early March). Windows do not isolate enough, and the air-condition had some problem. We received an extra heater to the room. But also the changing room for the hot-spring area is cold. We met there the owner who himself complained about the cold... 
Dinner (served in the room) and breakfast (served in the dining room) are fantastic. The ladies running the place are very helpful.
There is a parking place and there is Wifi everywhere.

Cold

整個旅社雖然只有11個房間，但是旅館管理得相當好，從晚間在自己房間內享用日本料理、飯後的鋪床、日式早餐、用早餐期間的房間整理、湯屋的管理、共用交誼廳的使用，讓你有無拘無束的感覺。用餐的食材雖不能說是頂級，但卻是料理得宜，平凡中顯現出真實，旅社內的服務人員非常有禮貌，可以算是不錯的經驗。如果想要尋求遠離塵囂的寧靜，體驗塌塌米的經驗，這是一間值得推薦的旅店。

A well-managed hotel away from city and hot spring resort. They provide warm services, nice hot spring, and simply environment for staying. The food they serve is simple yet well prepared.
