- Room was more like a studio flat with kitchen (I didn't use the stove but the microwave was handy) and washing machine. The drying function of the bathroom was great for laundry. 
- The location is convenient - 15 minutes walk to Gion and Kawaramachi shopping and eating areas, walkable to Kyoto station and many tourist sites. 
- The guesthouse is in an unbusy residential area; very quiet, didn't hear neighbours the whole week. 
- Staff were quite helpful the two times we interacted. They are there only during daytime hours. If you check in between 5 and 9pm, they leave your key in a lockbox - you get the code when you call them from the phone in the lobby. 
- Not enough power outlets, had to unplug machines to connect those I needed to charge. 
- Mostly clean although not often used corners (like the PC/keyboard, the outside of the collapsible bathroom door) were not dusted. 

great value, good location

From the moment we arrived, the staff was extremely helpful. The hotel room or mini appartment was awsome we had our own washing maschine and stove. Kyoto is extremely expensive to eat out so I recommend cooking definately. Everything was extremely clean. We even had a screen door to keep mosquitos out and let fresh air in. Their reception named zack was extremely helpful!!! Higly recommended, better then all the hotels we had in Japan. :)

The guesthouse is very cheap and big, the lack of natural light and smell of damp makes it a very poor choice. We stayed four nights and didnt get much sleep as the conditions were very poor. It had little natural light, fluorescent lights and the smell of damp.

Damp and dark

A friend and I stayed for a couple of nights at the Kamo River Kiyomizugojo. We were really pleasantly surprised with how good a place it was to stay.

We booked a triple room, with a private bathroom, which was essentially like a small self-contained apartment. It included a cook top, microwave and washing machine, so it would be great if you wanted to self cater / clean etc. 

The property was really clean, quite new, and in a wonderful location handy to pretty much everything in central Kyoto. 

We'd highly recommend this place, especially since its priced very reasonably.

Highly recommended budget option close to Kyoto Station and Gion district

The Hotel is a bit further away from Kyoto station. It took us about 15 - 20 minutes
walking to reach it. However it is close to the Kiyomizu-dera Metro station.

It is also close to Kiyomizu-dera and it's fairly easy to walk there. The river is also nearby, which was very convenient as we came to see the Daimon-ji festival and simply followed the river upwards in order to find the best viewing spots. The place is also fairly close to the Gion district.

As for the hotel itself, the reception is only until 5pm, so this could be considered a draw-back for some, as we didn't really need their presence this wasn't a problem for us. The hotel feels fine, there is an elevator and various bins for recycling. 

The room came with a washing machine and there is a dryer in the bathroom, which was super-useful and our clothes dried up very fast. There was even a miniature TV in the tub, but we didn't really use it, so can't comment on it besides being an interesting feature.

The room was very spacious, the biggest we had on this stay, there were two tables, one coffee one and one with a desktop computer. Overall the place was very spacious, which is a huge plus. One thing we had issues was that the air-conditioning was set to very cold and did not react to the remote properly, but we managed to resolve this with the staff without any issues. The ceiling light can also
be controled by remote which was convenient.

The wifi worked well and we had no issues with it. There are also several convenice stores and vending machines around so supplying ourselves was not an issue. Being close to the Subway line it is a good place to explore this part of the town, as you can go south to Fushimi-inari, which was only a couple of stops away, the Imperial Palace
is also on the same line to the North.

Overall I found the place spacious, well located for discovering this part of Kyoto and we were quite satisfied with everything.

Close to Kiyomizu-dera and Gion

My husband + I got to stay here for 2 nights and really loved it. We thought it was nice and quiet! The staff were all very sweet the location was great if you don’t mind biking/walking. Washing machine was amazing, huge plus. In my opinion the best thing is that this is 1 block away from the best coffee shop in Kyoto called Windy. It’s a must visit. I didn’t give it a full 5 star because the bed was uncomfortable.
