We were looking for a short break between time in Tokyo and Seoul outside of the hustle and bustle. The Izu Peninsula is an easy drive from Tokyo or Yokohama, and also accessible by train. It feels popular for locals but largely unvisited by us tourists from overseas, but it’s a real gem with great hill and beach scenery, lovely villages and a lot of history. We chose this hotel / ryokan after reading reviews and we were very pleased. Private onsen in our room, plus public onsens that were free to use which both included indoor and outdoor baths. Rooms are very spacious by Japanese standards, immaculately maintained, and very comfortable. We booked breakfast and one dinner - kaiseki menus - and the food was excellent in all cases. Very much recommended from our point of view, and while it’s not cheap, we think good value for money. The staff were also great, with one gentleman in particular speaking excellent English.
