208 reviewsMy parents and I stayed in this hotel for three nights and had a really good experience. It's a quiet location, but close to everything, and it felt very clean. Breakfast, while basic, is a lovely experience with seating areas out on an outdoor terrace that's very pleasant and idyllic. They serve breakfast a bit late, which would be my only main gripe, so that if you want an early morning breakfast is likely to be on your own, but perhaps that's the Italian way. I noticed a few other reviews with a few complaints that I (personally) thought were a little unfair given our experience. There are some complaints about the hotel being dated -- personally I disagree, I thought it was fine, and what little wear and tear I noticed seemed typical of a hotel. Some also complained about the size of the rooms -- and yes, while they are a bit tight, (1) this is very typical of European hotels and (2) at least at the time I booked our stay, Antico Casin was significantly cheaper than any other hotel in the area, so you get what you pay for. Personally I would take a tighter hotel room to save a couple hundred bucks. Finally, the location - it's great. It's less than a minute St. Mark's Square, but because it's on a quiet side alley you don't have any street noise at all. It will however be difficult to find the first time if you don't know where to look for it, but regardless of where you stay in Venice, you will need to look up where your hotel is beforehand!! Apart from a small area near the train station, there are no cars allowed anywhere in historical Venice, and if you pay for a water taxi, it will take you as close to the hotel as you can get -- but odds are, not right next to the hotel, and you will have to walk with your luggage the rest of the way. This will be true no matter where you stay, so regardless you need to be prepared and know generally where your hotel is in Venice. So if you are prepared as you should be, you will not have trouble finding it. My parents and I arrived well after midnight and were operating on no sleep for almost 48 hours and we were able to find the place just fine, but I had taken 2 minutes the day before to look it up on google maps. You should be fine if you do the same (and you should, regardless). The only critique of the hotel I agree with is that it's not disability-friendly. There is no elevator and to get to the reception you have a long flight of stairs. The breakfast terrace is up a further flight of stairs and at least our room had the main bed up the stairs inside the room. If you have trouble with stairs, it's not for you. If you don't think you can carry your suitcase up stairs, also not for you. Otherwise, I would definitely recommend it as a great value for the money.
