82 reviewsThe hotel's location is very convenient for the St Mark's Square attractions and transport connections, being only a few minute's walk away. It is nevertheless quiet, being at the end of a cul-de-sac that ends in a canal-side. This location makes the hotel a little difficult to find if you arrive by Alilaguna ferry from the airport to St. Mark's Square as we did. The reception area is small in size but the staff proved to be English-speaking, pleasant and helpful. They answered our questions and arranged for our baggage and some blankets to be taken to our rooms. As we had an early departure flight they arranged a breakfast box for us the night before and ordered us a private water taxi for 7am. Ferries are available from that time but they are much slower. The hotel's canal-side location makes it possible to take a water taxi directly from the hotel to the airport, which eliminates the need for walking through the city with luggage. In theory you can pay the water-taxi driver by bank card, but the battery on his card machine had run out so we had to pay cash. There are various staircases and winding corridors in the hotel leading to the rooms of the old building in which it is situated. Everything was clean and in good condition. Our room and en-suite bathroom were fairly small but adequate. Anything larger would be unlikely for the price in that area. There were good-sized windows overlooking the courtyard, and the ceiling was not at all low. The beds were two singles made up as a twin, but could have been made up as a double. When we arrived in reception we found that they had been made up as a double contrary to our booking request, but this was immediately rectified. The beds were comfortable and there were sufficient power points and wifi available in the room, as well as a small fridge that could act as a minibar, but which we only used for keeping the breakfast box in overnight. There appeared to be air conditioning but we did not need to try it in May, as the temperature in the room was about 20 degrees Celsius, the same as the outside. There was a room safe in the wardrobe and a TV in the room, neither of which we tried to use. Breakfast was of the continental self-service variety with a few cooked items, accessed via the courtyard from the street. It was a perfectly ordinary example of this sort of hotel breakfast provision. Next to it was a small hotel bar but this did not seem to be functioning at present. There is no hotel restaurant but the central location means that there are plenty of places nearby to eat and drink, though to find cheaper or more authentic venues you would have to walk further afield.

In the morning, have a cup of coffee while looking at the city from the window. You can take a walk and explore the neighbourhood area of the hotel. In accordance with the Institutional Regulations and the rules governing the fee for access, with or without a shuttle service, in Venice and the small islands of the Venetian Lagoon, an additional fee is charged to day-trippers who do not stay overnight and plan to visit the historic city centre from Friday to Sunday or on public holidays, from 08:30 AM to 04:00 PM. The fee will be from EUR 5.00 to 10.00 per day, depending on the date of booking. After payment, tourists must have a confirmation. Exempt from this fee are children under 14; residents of Venice and the Veneto region; people working or studying in Venice. Guests staying overnight are also exempt from this fee and must pay the city tax at the accommodation facilities. A cleaning tax is not included in the reservation price and is payable separately at the hotel.
