So, while this isn't necessarily a boutique hotel, it's a perfectly clean guesthouse in a good location and the price I paid reflected that well. JJ at reception was very friendly and helpful. The room was a grand size for a couple and that was with the knowledge that mine was one of the smaller rooms. I'd definitely consider it again in the area. 

JJ couldn't have been more helpful, so a big thank you to him. And being so close to the sea it meant I got to swim in the (freezing!) sea and enjoyed fish and chips afterwards. Great location and an ideal base.

Simple, affordable, accessible 

I'll be back!

Stayed midweek for a quick getaway, it cost €42.50 in total which was great value given the location in the heart of Salthill. The room was small but held a double bed and a generous en suite. It was clean and tidy and had tea/coffee facilities. It’s more like a guest house than a hotel, if you plan on spending time in the room book elsewhere. It’s perfect for dumping your bags and heading off for the day/night. I think it does slightly misrepresent itself with the image of a boutique hotel. We found it perfect for one night and would certainly stay for another one night break however we would look at somewhere else for a longer stay.

We booked a front room, got one at back of house.We were the 1st guests to arrive, she could have swopped us, but told us go elsewhere and refund would be given(that was without us mentioning all the broken items)
Room needs upgrade, broken tiles on floor, in shower, cracked handbasin,broken blinds on window looking on to concrete wall, no light...No view, just wall.
Socket loose on wall for Tv and kettle, unbalanced plastic shaded lamp, free standing on floor.
Our stay was ruined, on important occasion.
Only for The Black Cat restaurant(separate business)beneath, and their lovely staff and food,saved us!

PRAIRIE HOUSE Salthill

I've never had to leave a bad review ever but I really feel that booking sites need to be aware that they are advertising such a poor property. A quick look of reviews on trip advisor would tell a lot, it's a pity I didn't see them before booking.
1. I tried ringing both numbers advertised for this property prior to checking in but no answer and voicemail said the mailbox was full.
2. Payment was to be handled at the property but they took it off my card early the morning prior to check in. I would not have paid €89 for the room had I seen it first.
3. The reception was a plank of wood under a small stairs and the girl checking us in said it was her 1st day there so I didn't press her too much about the payment. I told her that I had tried ringing both numbers but she couldn't give me an answer as to why they didn't answer my calls.
4. The hall going to our room had an awful smell and when we got to the room it too had the same smell. I don't know what the smell was but it was not nice.
5. The room was tiny I have never seen a smaller room ever. The wardrobe was a hole in the wall with a metal bar and a few hangers. There was hardly room to leave our bags on the floor because there was nowhere else to put them.
6. The bathroom sink was patched up obviously broken before.
7. Not very soundproof!! We could hear the people upstairs talking and walking around.
8. On checkout there was nobody around to talk to about the issues we just had to leave the key on the plank under the stairs.
9.This room was way overpriced at €89 for what we got and no breakfast available had to go to the restaurant across the road.

Positives:
1. The room was clean apart from the smell.
2. The shower was good.
3. Excellent location near to shops, bars, the sea and 15 minute walking distance to the city or a bus stop across the road into town.

Do your homework before staying here

It's completely false advertising its not a boutique hotel on arrival we were given a room at top of stairs when opening door hit off of bed handle hanging off ensuite door wouldn't close  no place to hang clothes no fire escape when we complained foreign national was apologetic but couldn't get in touch with owner eventually got room on next floor window catch not working,overhead black cat restaurant so if fire started no where to escape definitely fire trap can't understand how fire officers could have passed this building

Had to pay before seeing the room, did not have parking, very noisy and the room was so small that we had to put our bags on the bed. Would not recommend. Check in was difficult and confusing and the staff were average
