This is really a hidden gem. When you arrive and front gate opens you will be let into a nice garden which leads directly to the lake. We stayed for 3 nights which is perfect. The service is nice and food is also good. if you want a stay away from the busy and noisy streets then this is the place to go. 20 min in a car you find the Marabi beach which is really a place to visit for a swim, a snack or just a walk by the beach

Perfect serene holiday in Vembanad house

Vembanad House - Aah what a lovely home !!! The place is no short of being poetic. it’s a place to rediscover, rejuviNate, rediscover.

We booked Vembanad for 3 nights, however we were so smitten by the lovely place that we extended our stay by a day.

It’s right on the brink of Vembanad lake which is the largest lake of Kerala. You wake up early morning and a mesmerising view of sunrise greets you with the sound of lake water lapping up the banks and boats of fishermen passing by in a straight line. While lying on a hammock you are transported to a different world altogether.

The rooms are lovely and designed in typical old fashioned Kerala architecture with basis amenities and is spacious. Washroom has a bathtub with the roof directly above having a mirror slit where sunrays fall on you. Overall you get a feeling of openness all around.

Mrs. Sandhya is an excellent host and very helpful lady. She is a spiritual teacher and you can talk with her about physical and mental healing for hours at a stretch.

Her man Friday is Sanjay. The more said about him the lesser it will be. What an exceptional cook he is !!! He prepared breakfast like Appam, Puttu, Ishtew, Idli, etc. For dinner he prepared Lobsters, Calamari, duck, chicken, etc which all were EXCEPTIONAL. He is extremely helpful and always ready to help if asked for.

Alapuzzha and nearby Kumarakom has many luxurious established resorts, but I am sure the personal touch and overall experience provided by Vembanad House is outstanding…It’s a sweet aftertaste that lingers onto your memory.

An Unforgettable Experience…Tranquil, Serene !!!

Stayed there for 3 nights and very happy. The views over the beautiful lake are stunning. You can lie in a hammock and just watch the few fishing boats pass by. It has a large and beautiful garden and several seating options in it. Rooms are generously spaced and have functioning air conditioning and fans. The positive surprise was the food. All breakfast, lunch and dinner were stunning and absolutely sumptuous tasty Indian food. You won't get hungry here. Water available anytime and the hosts are very friendly and always there if you need something. 

Only downsides were things that the host can't really control and are just things you get everywhere in rural Kerala. Occasional dusty patches in the rooms and the house but it's Indian countryside and a classic South Indian open airy architecture so inevitable despite frequent cleaning. Considering that it's very clean throughout. The WiFi is unreliable but that's the same everywhere in Kerala, especially in more rural areas. There's a temple nearby playing music a lot of the time but it's not that loud and it fits into the landscapes. 

So overall very recommended especially if you are looking for a tranquil spot to rewind and have a healthy appetite to sample some South Indian food.

We were a family of 12, who booked the entire place for ourselves.
It was an awesome place to stay. Very clean. Well maintained, beautiful property with green landscape facing the lake.
Good food. Hosts were kind too.


Beautiful and clean stay, excellent hosts

We have just spent four months in India and Vembanad House was the place we enjoyed the most. The house itself is a lovely old Keralan building set in a garden full of trees, shrubs and orchids. It looks out across Lake Vembanad and you can sit in a shady nook or lie on the hammock and watch the canoes and fishing boats potter past, and a wealth of birds on the water or in the palm trees. Our room was attractive and comfortable and very clean with a modern bathroom and plenty of hot water. Not that I used much as it was too warm for hot showers! Sandhiya and Bala were delightful hosts, helping to organise trips and transport, engaging in interesting conversations and providing some of the best cooking we have had in India. There was just too much of it! For example we had fresh fruit with every meal and each time it was a different fruit. There is an airy central hall/seating area that stayed cool throughout the day, with wood carved doors, and antique furniture. We ventured into Aleppey once but could not wait to get back to the peace and tranquility of Vembanad House. If you want restaurants and nightlife then this is not the place for you but if you want birdsong, sunrise over the water, greenery and a glimpse of real life in a small fishing community then come here for several days at least, to completely relax.

The best place we stayed in India

My wife and I together with my brother and his wife had a two-night stay at Vembanad House, and we were bowled over by the welcome from our hosts, and the lovely bungalow. It was oh so tranquil, so comfortable and the home cooked food was lovely. What a find, positioned right on Lake Vembanad and able to look out and watch the fishermen in the early morning and late afternoon.
Just what was needed after the hustle and bustle of sight-seeing in Rajasthan. Away from it all!

Kerala at its best

We stayed here for 3 nights, what a relaxing place to be!
We were incredibly well fed. Breakfast lunch and dinner was available if you wanted it. All the meals were plentiful and delicious with a selection of dishes served. 
The owner was very helpful and hospitable. We visited Alleppy by Tuk Tuk, we were recommended to get a paddle powered canoe tour around some of the smaller backwaters, this was a great day out. We also walked to the nearby Coir factory and village where the locals were friendly and welcoming.
Our subsequent night was on a houseboat which picked us up from the garden quay- so easy!

Tranquil homestay in great location

Vembanad house is a renovated 100-yr old house converted into a home-stay. The building is in a large property by the side of the backwaters and one can just spend hours   lying on the hammock enjoying the view of the Vembanad lake with the numerous fishing canoes.
Sandhya, our host, plus the other staff were very welcoming. The food (breakfast and dinner) tasted home made and the quality was faultless.
It has large bedrooms with attached verandas, from where one can enjoy the sunrise.
The  stay was so enjoyable that we hardly went outside the property. Can't wait to go back and relive the experience.
