Four friends and I lived in the panorama apartment from 11th to 17th of Feb 2018. The apartment was great, but the owners tried to lie to us, or perhaps were just really bad at doing their job. 

The owners lied to us, telling us they had sent a receipt via email to the booker, and made us pay the bus ticket fees again. Did not reply to any email after we left. 

I had to bike there to get the bus money back, and Yoko faked a receipt based on the amount I told her we had paid. She blamed her husband for the confusion around payment.

My friends and I felt cheated and lied to, and we would not use this hostel again if we have to stay in Kirchzarten. 


Poor administration

Mr Roland Rombach the owner is the rudest man we have met.We sent numerous emails to make and confirm our booking for an extended family visit for 5 nights 26th to 31st july. We booked the Belchen and Feldberg apartments which are next to each other.One is a two bed,the other a one bed, both with kitchenette and their own bathroom.No booking form ,confirmation or receipt for the deposit was ever sent.The problematic booking process and Mr Rombachs one or two word response to any qustions made us a little nervous.I emailed a week before arrivaL to let him know what time we were due and check everything was ok. We arrived on time to find nobody there. After a short wait he and his wife arrived looked at us as though we had landed from Mars and said they werent  expecting us .With 3 tired kids it wasnt what we wanted to hear . He then acknowledged the booking with no apology. We then requested the free travel cards which didnt go down well.We then realised he had put too few days on them to be told they are your booked days. He had messed up the booking completely. We were then told some of us would have to move on the last night and that it was our mistake.
Our apartments were absolutely fine.Nicely furnished,clean enough ( even though we had the last persons rubbish and our sons room lacked curtains) and we had a nice few days  UNTIL.
On the morning of our last full day someone went into our sons apartment and told him he must leave.Just as we were gathering ourselves to sort it out another lady appeared. She told us she had returned from her day out the day before to find someone else in her room and her stuff gone. She had to sleep in her car and had returned to collect missing jewellery.
We found Mr and Mrs Rombach I said I was worried he would do the same to us because he had got our booking wrong just the same as the lady we had just met. Without any apology or admission of getting it wrong he said we were ok for the last night. He then flicked a dismissive back hand to the other lady,told her her booking was wrong and he didnt know where her jewellery was.It was honestly unbelievable.
People need to know how rude this man is.The shame of it is apart from him and how he runs the place we would quite happily stay here again. Its good quality budget accommodation  in a great location in a beautiful area.
I would not want anyone to book to stay here at the risk of no security of their length of stay.

THE OWNER-OH MY GOD !!!!!

We stayed here with a large group of adults plus a few little kids for our annual get-together-weekend. 

Location
The guest house lies very conveniently located in Kirchzarten just a short walk to the train station with a bakery opposite the street and there's a little cafe (Solar Café) for nice breakfast or cake right at the entrance. The close vicinity to the train station has the little drawback, that the train passes directly in front of the garden but even though it's so close it was surprisingly quiet and didn't really bother us..

Rooms & beds
The rooms were neat and clean, each with a bedroom, a little kitchen corner (some had stoves, some didn't) and a living area. The beds were small and creaky and not the most comfortable I ever slept in but they were definitely ok and good enough.

Bathroom and toilet
Unfortunately the rooms didn't have their own toilets or bathrooms (except the big one) so there are shared ones on each floor. For the bathrooms, they have a sink and mirror for each of the rooms marked with the name of the room so you are sure it is yours. On the floor we were, there were no shades on the bathroom window, so watch out for the neighbours. 😉 Toilets and bathrooms were absolutely clean and fully functioning, no complaints.

Service & hospitality
Now this one was quite a bummer. Just in the week before our visit we were send an email stating that we were not going to be allowed to all meet at once in the garden or in one of the apartment rooms as this would be too loud for the neighbours. I mean, I understand that visitors have to keep to the general quiet times but we obviously came to Kirchzarten from all over to meet each other and I found it quite rude to literally forbid us to do so. This brought quite a bitter aftertaste before we even arrived. That all being said though we didn't have any problems in those regards during our stay so it again was kinda unnecessary. 

As much as hospitality goes, there wasn't much it. The landlady was quite helpful but the grumpy owner definitely wasn't cut out for this kind of business. However they weren't even there most of the time so it didn't matter.

Overall
We did have a great time here and the hotel is perfectly located for day trips to Freiburg and the blackforest area like beautiful Schauinsland and so on. The rooms and the garden make a good base to feel comfortable after a long day out. There's everything close by that you need and maybe the owners someday will learn how to better communicate and make people welcome, before, while and after.

Don't expect a welcome hug

Good price for good quality...in winter time is close to ski areal and on summer time you can enjoy lots of roads for bike trips.In hostel you can used sauna and small fitness.There is only small problem with noise,because the hostel is close to train.

A room with small kitchen for only 29 euro a night, where do you find that!? Friendly people as well. Only the railway crossing next to the building may be troublesome in the early morning. The surroundings are great to do some challenging road- or mountainbike trips.
