Trinquet means the place where you can play pelote ( a basque game )...it is now a very nice hotel, very quiet street, great food and meet the locals at the bar. The owner is very friendly and the service is excellent. A must .

A well kelp secret

They could not have do more for us . What a lovely place to stay. Family run operation from grandson to grandfather - great location and nice atmosphere . Our boys loved the Pelloto Court .the apartment was very spacious and very practical . Will 
go back for sure 

Welcoming and accomadating 

Since our visit to Le Trinquet Maitena in 2013 the hotel has opened its own restaurant, run by the owner's four daughters, all of whom are first-rate chefs. The restaurant, open Mon-Fri for lunch only, is an excellent addition to this characterful hotel/bar. It serves a different set menu every day, with imaginative dishes and produce fresh from the local market. Very good value, whether you're staying at the hotel or not.

Tasty new restaurant

A gem at the heart of St Jean-de-Luz. Located in a quiet street adjacent to rue Gambetta, the town's main artery, the hotel is centred around its indoor pelote court (the traditional Basque game), itself a rarity. The apartments are spotlessly clean, comfortable, spacious and well-equipped. But what makes this hotel so exceptional is its imposing bar, furnished in traditional style and rich in character - as are the regular customers whose lively conversation is punctuated by sounds emanating from the court which the bar overlooks. Presiding over it all is the patron, a charming and dutiful host, fluent in English and Spanish with a fund of information and entertaining anecdotes. The atmosphere at the bar resembles that of a club and for our all-too-brief stay we felt privileged to be members.

Join the Club

We booked into this apart hotel only intending to stay four nights but ended up staying nine it was so enjoyable. It is perfectly situated, in a very quiet street but only a hop to the main street, the market, the railway station and the beautiful beach.
It has a pelota court attached so you can sit in the bar and watch locals play this fabulous Basque game. 
The apartment itself is basic but has two main balconies plus a tiny one off the main bedroom. There is plenty of room and lots of storage. The kitchen is small but has everything you need. The owners said they are intending to decorate over winter.
The owners speak fluent English and are a lot of fun. They are smart and helpful and have a heap of great stories. I was seriously sorry to leave.
