La Bergerie

We stayed four nights at this pretty, authentic Gite farmhouse. It was set slightly high overlooking the resort town of Ile Rousse, with its delightful little lanes of shops, bars and restaurants and busy marina full of boats and yachts. La Bergerie was a 5 minute drive or a fairly brisk hair raising walk of 15 mins due to virtually no pavement but we did walk a few times and survived. The swimming pool was lovely as was the other buildings and an open plan restaurant for dinners and breakfasts only (lunch could be purchased as a small snack at the pool but dont get too excited). We did have dinner one night which was very nice - limited menu. My room was a basic twin which was fairly cheap so I feel a little hesitant to be negatives. The room was quite depressing, no pictures on the white walls and basic hanging space cupboards. The door wall also had double glass doors which were kept shut as it led onto the courtyard with people passing. There was no other window but great AC. The bathroom was a fairly good size but very basic. The shower required updating, often it was purely a trickle and cold. If you wish to stay here, go for the rooms with terrace and beautiful views across town towards the sea. The views are gorgeous. We didnt go for breakfast as we are not the 'continental breakfast' kind but there is a rather nice area to sit, order hot drinks and eat some fruit which they are happy to allow. The staff/family that runs La Bergerie do a great job but they are always extraordinarily busy, rushing around with multiple jobs. This often doesnt make for a very relaxing holiday, especially when you feel you are interrupting when you need to request something. At times, one or two were extremely helpful and approachable. All in all, we liked the vibe and location but the basic rooms need addressing.
