We have just spent 3 nights at this beautiful location. The welcome from Christoph and Sabine was very friendly. We were greeted with a much needed drink upon arrival before being shown around the house. An atmosphere of calm makes a stop here very restful. Being able to come and go as we wished was just what we needed as we were travelling around on bicycles and needed to cool of in the pool whenever we finished our daily rides. Our room was spotlessly clean, as was the whole property. The bed was extremely comfortable and could be adjusted as it was electric (Room 4). Having a fairly private area outside the room to relax in made the stay exceptional. Breakfast was excellent with fruit, meats, cheese, yogurt, pastries etc and endless coffee. Being able to make tea and coffee freely throughout the day was very welcome. Would we stay here again if in the area - most certainly. If you are looking for somewhere comfortable,restful and peaceful book here if you can, you will not be disappointed.

A restful spot to spend a few days

I won’t repeat all the details from my review of 2017. Everything at the Domaine du Papillon is the same excellent standard. One difference was the weather. In January 2017, the temperature was -5°C; in July 2019, it was 28°C and more. This meant that we were able to enjoy the beautiful gardens for sitting, reading or sunbathing, and sploosh in the saltwater 12m pool.

Christoph and Sabine were wonderful, accommodating hosts. I was with my two elderly cousins whose constitutions are not up to two doses of French cuisine every day; so it was our custom to buy breads, meats, cheeses and wines to eat on the patio tables. Christoph and Sabine were very happy to let us use the plates, cutlery and glasses that are normally just for breakfast. They often joined us for preprandials and conversation.

Domaine du Papillon is a great place if you just want to chill out or explore the delights of the Médoc.

Still a Gem

We arrived for a 3 day stay in February 17. Christoph and Sabine were extremely welcoming and friendly and made us feel instantly at ease. The rooms were beautifully and tastefully decorated and the breakfast was excellent. Both of them speak 3 languages! It is well situated for exploring the Medoc wine region. We would highly recommend a stay here. Thank you and hope to see you again.

Excellent place to explore the wine region

Our stay at the Domaine du Papillon was in the middle of January—out of season, so we were very relieved to find the Domaine du Papillon with two rooms available as our regular hotel along with most of the others in the locality were shut. The place is a gem. To call it a B&B does no justice to the attractiveness of the building (yellow sandstone typical of the better properties in the area), the gardens, the size and comfort of the rooms, and the warmth and friendliness of the owners, Christoph and Sabine.

There are only four rooms. Mine is the only one that had to be reached by going outside. It was a large room with a queen-sized, or perhaps, king-sized double bed that was electrically adjustable to raise the head and feet. There was a TV in the room, but I never switched it on, so I can't comment on the range of channels. The bathroom was more than big enough with an efficient shower. A supply of towels was provided and changed every three days. Everything was in good order. The central heating, essential with the subzero temperatures we had to endure for several nights, was more than up to the task.

Everything was scrupulously clean.

Breakfast was taken in what I christened the common room. Delicious bread and croissants were provided with fresh fruit salad, some cheese, and cold meats. Eggs—fried, boiled or scrambled—were offered. Fruit juice, coffee, and various teas were available to drink.

We had not gone for a holiday, so it suited us to take bread and fixings back to have an evening meal in the common room. The kitchen is off-limits to guests, so cooking is not an option, but there are fridges in the common room for guests to use to keep food fresh and wine chilled. Christoph and Sabine were happy to provide plates and cutlery. We had several very convivial evenings with Christoph and Sabine and other guests.

There is space to park inside the grounds, which are entered through a very imposing steel gate operated by a remote control that you are provided with along with your room key. A word of warning here, the final approach to rue André Guichenet, if you are coming from Lesparre, is just past a very tight bend. Caution, as you approach the bend, is advised; we were nearly wiped out by a large camion coming in the opposite direction one evening.

There are other facilities at the Domaine that we did not use given the weather: a pool, a patio for al fresco cocktails, inside there are some exercise bikes. There is free wifi; though the signal was not strong enough to reach my room, I measured it at a reasonable 8-9 Mbps.

I cannot find anything to fault about Domaine du Papillon. I would happily stay here on my next visit to the Médoc.

A gem of the place

We stayed only for 3 nights however the owners could not have been more accommodating. They were very laid back and friendly, easy to talk to and accommodated for your every need. They gave a lot of information about what restaurants to eat at (which were lovely!) and about the vineyards and the beaches to visit. The room was very big and clean and with an en-suite for plenty of privacy. The garden was absolutely beautiful and well looked after and the pool was heaven! We are definitely hoping to visit again in the future!

Amazing place to stay!

You will have to search hard and pay a lot of money to find a better place to rest your legs and mind! Hosts Sabine & Christoph are the ultimate hosts, nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are spacious, scrupulously clean with ensuites and TV. Beds are more than comfortable. The garden and pool are a haven of peace and gorgeousness! You'll struggle to pull yourself away from it to visit the amazing beaches and 100's of vineyards a short drive away. Not only did we feel thoroughly at home we also felt we were staying with friends. We will definitely be coming back. 

Simply unbeatable! 

We've been there for three nights. The owners are such a nice couple, very friendly.They help us providing all info about the region. The room was huge, very comfortable, excellent service, very clean. 
The last morning, it was my birthday and whole table was decorated with flowers. After that I received a little cake with a candle. Such a cute gesture!
It was a very pleasant stay
