This is a strange review because we never actually made it to stay!  We booked two rooms in summer 2019 only for a health issue to require us to cancel.  
The owner, the understanding Bleigh, offered a refund or postpone to 2020.  

The place looks so fab we choose the latter but you can guess what happened then- covid struck!  

But the holiday remained possible due to france being on the green list of countries to visit so we thought we were good - only for easyjet to switch our flight to Figari airport in the south (some  5 hours away).  

Furthermore there were zero hire cars available because the firms had effectively shut up shop for the summer because of covid.  

But then came Bleigh to the rescue!!

She rang all the local hire firms directly for us and used her language skills and charm to get us the last free car on the island.  

Home and dry ?  Not quite ...the hire firm then said the car was only available from day 2 of our holiday!  So the super-fixer Bleigh arranged for her gardener to drive the 10 hour round trip to pick us up!!

Home and dry then?.. of course not!  Two days before we were due to fly the travel restrictions returned and we couldn’t go anyway!  Needless to say Bleigh helped us get our car hire refunded and bumped us on to 2021.

And here we are in 2021, things were less than certain with France on the amber list.   

Furthermore ours kids, who would have been 13 in 2019 are now 15 going on 21, meaning that a quiet holiday in a beautiful location is not such a good fit for their energetic and independent needs.

So at this point, after all the work, the saintly Bleigh offers us a refund!!!  

Having lost loads on flights I am well aware that getting refunds in such circumstances is discretionary which is why Bleigh’s kindness on top of her helpfulness was truly touching.

The fact remains that the Manor looks like a heavenly retreat, and I look forward to going there with my wife when the chicks have flown the nest and we are holidaying as a couple... and when I do I look forward to another five star review, which will be a rating for the place itself (as opposed to this review which is in fact a  5 stars review for Saint Bleigh!!)

We cannot thank the owner enough!

We booked a weeks stay at this B&B from the Corsica Places website. We liked the olde worlde look and we were not disappointed. The rooms were a little dark but the views from the balcony were absolutely stunning and the welcome and assistance we got from Bleigh (our hostess and owner) was second to none. During our stay she couldn't have been more helpful especially when we had a little accident with our hire car - she sorted it all out for us. The breakfasts were perfect with all home produce including the freshly squeezed orange juice. The staff, Lucienne, Monica & Pascal were all wonderful, friendly and attentive. Margot was great at breakfast and will cook an egg to your specification perfectly! Lucienne is an excellent cook and we strongly recommend having at least one meal in the B&B.Pascal is quiet but very friendly & very strong carrying luggage. All in all a perfect place to stay!

A really good holiday

We spent 6 days at this unique B&B set on a hill above the town and beach of Calvi. 
Each morning started with a delicious breakfast of fruit and fresh pastries served on the pool terrace. We spent lazy mornings in the pool, beautiful days at the near-by beach, hiking in the woods or visiting small villages near by. Our hostess, an American who has lived in France for decades, was extremely helpful with suggestions and anything else we needed. She helped us find a rental car with automatic transmission (not an easy task), recommended restaurants and other local amenities and services. Going above and beyond, she graciously provided beach towels and did our laundry.  
The Manor has 4 rooms and is an ideal location for families and friends to gather. We'd love to go back and book the whole place!

Special Place

We enjoyed our stay. The location is tranquil which Calvi isn't. It is also pretty, which Calvi isn't. Bleigh Russom runs a very nice property. The breakfast on the terrace is extremely pleasant. The room we stayed in was very comfortable and the terrace is a welcome addition to relax in. We stayed 3 nights.

Very nice!

Calvi is considered one of the most beautiful and fashionable seaside resorts in Corsica. It is located on the northwestern coast of the island, some 165 kilometers from the Corsican capital Ajaccio. Founded by the Romans in the first century CE, the city was ruled by the Genovese maritime republic from 1278, until it was given away to France in the 18th century.
 
We were most impressed by the Citadel built by the Genovese, who considered the city their main stronghold. No surprise here: the Citadel’s massive bastions dominate the city and protect it from all four sides, with three of them facing the sea. Calvi could be divided into three main areas: the upper part is the Citadel; the lower one is the city itself that overlooks the harbor; and the marina, arguably the most beautiful in Corsica. 

The best-kept secret in Calvi is the Manor Russum, a secluded ancient mansion situated in a one-hectare park and landscaped gardens, turned into a luxury B&B by its owner, Mrs. Bleigh Patton Russum. Not listed in major guidebooks on Corsica, the Manor is also not easy to find. It seems that this enchanted oasis of beauty, elegance, and tranquility wants to find you.  I guess that was exactly how it happened: I came upon the Manor Russum website by a pure chance, or was I selected by the Manor?
 
Just about one kilometer away from the marina, behind the stone wall and heavy iron gates, the mansion and its gardens seemed alive and welcoming. It became our home base to explore Calvi; and it was the Manor that made us change our old habit of getting up early in the morning and rushing to our next destination. Instead we lingered there for hours, enjoying our beautiful room (or rather a suite) and a balcony (or rather a covered big terrace).  The period furniture was equally impressive: Louis XV dressing table and a chair, Louis Philippe secretary, and an armchair of the Directoire style. From the Manor, you can adore the view: the mountains and the Citadel. I loved best the view of the house itself from the heated swimming pool and the hot tub nearby.

With only four rooms ready to welcome a sophisticated traveler, book as early as you can!

Beautiful Manor Russum – Your Best Hotel in Calvi, Corsica

We stayed in the Manor four nights, one night in the Suite de Charme with the bath across the hall, and other nights in the Suite Prestige. They were both nice rooms; however the bed in the Prestige is a little more comfy.  There is a balcony/terrace adjoining each room, separated by a screen.  This works if everyone is respectful. 
We had a couple next to us with a baby who were very conscientious of everyone's
peace and quiet.  The bathrooms are very nice, large with nice storage areas and toilet articles. There is a safe in the room, which you need to be careful with when entering the code, or it fouls things up for the owner.  There is no refrigerator in the room, and
the one in the hall is for the Manor beverages only.  The pool and jacuzzi looked lovely and well maintained.  Yes, the view from the Manor is lovely at night,  There is plenty of free parking, and I'm sure the free breakfasts are very tasty.  We don't usually eat breakfast; because we want to enjoy a nice lunch and dinner.  The pounds do add up, unless you are doing a lot of walking or exercise.  We would have liked to take a coffee on our balcony each morning;  but we felt this was discouraged.  Blyth's help are very friendly and accommodating in every way.  While this was not our favorite place to stay during our six week trip; it is an interesting B&B and definitely a good place for people who enjoy rooms with character.  The price is also very reasonable, and the owner is very fair with her pricing.

Interesting Property

If you are looking to relax, breath,unwind and enjoy what Calvi has to offer then this is a great base for your holiday.
The building has an almost colonial feel to it - you could easily be stepping back to the 1950`s. The rooms are large and airy - however one of ours was a tad dark but of little concern as they were only used to sleep in. The vista is breath taking and we slept with the curtains open to enure that is what we woke to.
Breakfast by the pool is a delight - fresh bread, fruit, eggs, yoghurt etc - Margo is a dream and if we could have pursuaded her to move to the UK we would.
This is not a brash B & B - it is a private house - treat it with respect.
On a side note Corsica is beautiful - a car is essential as are deep pockets!
