Fabulous, fresh food !   Choice of meat/chicken and then everything else is what they have cooked that day.   We went 3 times during my month long visit and each time it was superb !  Staff worked hard but always had a smile.  And SO cheap at 150le each !  

Gorgeous food in authentic style.

After the chaos of Cairo, nour al gourna is a balm for the spirit. Quiet, excellent location for access to the sites in western Luxor, helpful staff, cute cats, good food, affordable.  Overall wonderful. I wish I didn't have to leave!

Restful and solid

I spent 2 nights at Nour el Gourna and found it to be very comfortable. Being built of mud brick, the upstairs room was very cool and I didn't need the airconditioner much, except for a short time after returning in 38 degree heat from exploring the fabulous tombs and temples located a stone's throw away from the guesthouse. The owners and employees had homes adjoining the rooms and were extremely friendly - there was even a little schoolroom attached. The restaurant was often frequented by tourists and their guides at lunch time, and provides fresh local produce, including their own chooks and ducks. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. The location is brilliant, directly opposite the ticket booths, with Medinat Habu Temple, the Ramasseum and the Tombs of the Nobles and Deir el Medina in easy walking distance. As a bonus, my room had a view of the Colossi of Memnon and is actually located within the grounds of the funerary temple of Amenhotep III, which is currently under excavation and off limits to visitors. Unless you are the type who prefers 5* accommodation, I recommend this little gem to those in search of the real Egypt.

Delightful little oasis on the West Bank

We spent two nights at Nour El Gourna while checking out the sights around luxor.  It's location couldn't be better for exploring the West Bank.  It's located right in the middle of a UNESCO world Heritage site. It's at the base of the mountain of the valley of the Kings and we were a short walk from Medinat Habu. The owner Mahmoud was our driver both days at the price of £150 EGP, this was well worth it. The family that runs this place was very friendly. Rooms were as clean as you could expect from a structure made of mud brick with a thatched roof. The shower was great. The food in the restaurant was traditional Egyptian and it was fantastic  (although repetitive, but since we were only there 2 days it was great). I would recommend staying here for a great experience! 

Not for every type of traveler, but we had a great experience 

We stayed with our children at this charming and friendly B&B for a week Feb 16 - 23 2015.  The rooms have a beautiful fading splendor to them, traditional, clean and very good housekeeping.  Breakfasts were splendid - with fresh orange juice, home baked bread and home-made cheese and marmalade. We ate many wonderful evening meals at the hotel too - they were beautifully cooked, fresh and plentiful.  Fabulous, reasonably priced and traditional. It is probably the best located hotel on the whole of the West Bank.   Go there!

Charming B&B Beautiful Food!

Nice experiment. Friendly people. Due to the sand wind and the type of roof, there was a lot of dust and sand everywhere in the room. Nothing to do with it. Quite an experience ;-)
Good cooking. Nice garden when not windy. Close to many visits but far from everything else. Not so easy to go to the East Bank.
