Great hostel. The personal was friendly and accepted to keep my luggage in a room after my check-out time. It permitted me to explore the city more that I could've. The rooms are spacious and the bed quite comfortable. In the middle of the city, next to the market. Would go back.

Great Hostel

I really liked this bijout of a hotel. So glad we found it. It is so cute and cosy, exactly like in the pictures. The owner / manager is extremely friendly and we were even allowed to check in earlier since we got off the night bus and didn't know what to do. She also let us check out late. The restaurant which is in the same building is great as well. The prices are absolutely fair!
It is clean and the location is perfect if you want to head to the market. Will definitely stay there again when I'm back in Otavalo.

Fantastic central bijou

Good size rooms, bright, colourful and clean. Friendly staff, they didn't speak any English which gave me a chance to practice my Spanish! They were quite thoughtful, offering an extra blanket and making the effort to chat to me with my limited Spanish.
The hostal is in a great location and has a good kitchen also.

The staff was helpful and patient.  The location was perfect.  I would recommend it to anyone!

We based ourselves here for a day as a stop on the way to the Colombian border and it was one of our favourite hostels in South America. First off, it was SPOTLESS - the cleanest hostel we've come across in two months travelling. The kitchen, rooms, and common area are all nicely furnished and very pleasant. The wifi was great, loads of hot water in the bathroom for showers. The owner was incredibly helpful - we had a bus at 3am to Tulcan and he organised a taxi with us, told us where the safest bus stop was at that time of night, and woke up at 3am to see us off.

The cleanest hostel you will find in South America

We could not have asked for better service and hospitality from Jose and staff at this hostel. In a great location close to all amenities and transport right outside the front door. Room was spacious enough with TV and great wifi, cleaning daily and really hot water in the shower. Fridge available in upstairs communal kitchen and free coffee/tea. Jose was always helpful with information and put us in the right direction with helpful hints to make sure we had a good time in Otavalo. Our Spainish was very basic but Jose was patient and together we made things happen and picked up some more of the language. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would go back if in the area again.

Excellent Service from Jose and staff

Visited midweek so didn’t get the full effect of the market vibes in Otavalo. Felt like 95% of things sold there were not hand made or artisan but cheap knockoffs shipped from China. 

Anyway about the hostal... 

Clean and tidy hostal centrally located in town. Nice little kitchen to cook backpacker meals. 

Smart and tidy dorm rooms - we stayed in a triple dorm. Comfortable beds with nice bright colourful bedding. Our room was on the front corner of the property so a little noisy in the morning. 

Pleasant and helpful staff - helped organise a local laundry service.

WiFi didn’t work on our arrival but was soon restored by the evening. 

Shower was a little basic - only 2 washrooms so we often found we would be waiting for the facilities at peak times. 

Hostal was a little cold throughout as the doors were left open - may be the time of year but we ended up sleeping in thermal clothing and wearing our down jackets most of the time when indoors. 

Otherwise a good stop off en route north to Colombia. 


Best bit of our stay in Otavalo

Great location and very helpful and friendly staff.  Only negative would be lukewarm shower

Well located in Otavalo. Rooms are OK and clean. There is hot water in the shower. I was put in a two single beds room instead of a dormitory. Nothing to complain about except a lack of atmosphere and charm. 

No complaints

Such a comfortable hostel. Had a room of 3. Beds are comfortable, shower is clean, everything is clean. The roof top is great with a wonderful view. Staff is like a ghost. They are not really there. I did not have to show any ID while checking in, which is bad for security.
