El Saltón

This hotel is showing its age a little and could probably do with a face-lift, but overall it was a wonderful experience staying here. Its remote mountain location is absolutely stunning, rooms are comfortable and look out onto gorgeous tropical vegetation, the ranchon is a fabulous place to sit and eat, and staff are friendly and helpful. The adjacent pool and waterfall is fairytale beautiful - although we heard reports that it dries up in the dry season. Guided walks and horse rides are a great way to see the area, and walking up the steps behind the bedroom blocks leads up to a small farm on the hill, where delicious evening meals can be booked. POTENTIAL BOOKING PROBLEM: when we booked, most booking sites showed that the hotel was fully booked, and I managed to find only one room on a more obscure site. In reality, we we virtually the only people staying. There seems to be some glitch in the booking system, which is likely to be deterring potential guests. Hotel management should look at this!
