88 reviewsWhen booking this, my friend and I were initially drawn in by its prices (considerably cheaper than most other hostels in Puerto Viejo). Arriving at the hostel we were pleasantly surprised, considering the (surprisingly) low ratings seen on here and other websites. The rooms are a little bit basic but the beds are comfortable and they are all comfortable with good mosquito nets - a necessity in Puerto Viejo. Blue Butterfly has a decently sized kitchen which is great for people on a budget, whilst the staff are super friendly and helpful. It is located less than five minutes from the centre of Puerto Viejo and five to ten minutes from the nearest beaches. Supermarkets are also super close. Further, there is a nice bike rental place right on the doorstep where you can get bikes for $5 a day and easily explore the beautiful national parks and beaches in the surrounding area. Really couldn't recommend it more highly, especially if you're on a budget.
