My collection of remarkable lodgings--assembled over four decades--includes a ryokan in Kyoto, a 17th century manor in Portugal, a guest house in Entebbe and now Hacienda Buenavista.

We arrived with high expectations after a six-night stay in hustling, bustling Medellin. In every way possible, our expectations were exceeded by the grace and hospitality of HB's staff and the exceptional beauty of the property and environs.

A few highlights:
**In the mornings, we were never more than a few steps out of our room before Melinda and Lynn greeted us with a cheerful "Good Morning" and cups of perfectly brewed coffee.
**The owners have impeccable taste; the Hacienda is "Architectural Digest"-worthy. My wife and I never tired of noting the home's one-of-a-kind features and marveling over its construction.
**Chef Enrique prepared scrumptious breakfasts, lunches and dinners using hyper-local ingredients. Our evening meals were accompanied by excellent cocktails and wines.
**Perched atop 100 acres of citrus groves, HB is blessed with views that at times seemed Photoshopped!
**Lynn arranged a terrific tour of a coffee farm--with a phenomenal lunch--and a visit to Filandia with another incredible lunch at Helena Adentro.
**Ginger and Mariposa loved to be stroked. For the record, the girls are cats.

A Slice of Paradise!

The Hacienda is a bit off the beaten track and it takes some time to get there, but it is worth the trip. The area is really extremely beautiful. From the Hacienda you have a breathtaking view on the scenery, the river and the surrounding hills. The best view you have from the pool, you could just sit there for hours and enjoy - this is the main reason to come here for me. And of course it is very quiet and you will have time to relax and unwind.

The Hacienda has a large farm so you can have long walks within the property including a very nice waterfall- I highly recommend to do this walk. You can also do a river tour in a canoe and there are many excursions available like Cocora Valley, a must! If you like nature and beautiful scenery you will enjoy it.

The Hacienda is built in an open plan, the main area consists of a dining area, two beautiful sitting areas and the pool with the stunning view. There are five rooms, built in a Spanish colonial style, they are spacious and gave a lot of space for your belongings. I recommend the room Ceiba with the best views. Please note they do not provide slippers. I liked their green approach, they only change towels if you require.

The manager Floris, son of the owner is a extremely friendly and nice person, he is really a great host. Juan s also very nice and also fluent in English. 

The food is ok. Some dishes are very good, in particular the fresh fruit platter is excellent. Also the curry was very good. Unfortunately some dishes were overcooked like the rice and the fish. I would not call it Michelin star food, but still good food. Please note that breakfast is generally included but includes only a limited number of items. If you want granola with yoghurt and fruit, you need to pay for the granola (I don't care to pay extra, but it felt just a bit strange).

If you love great scenery and want to unwind in a calm environment, this is the place to go. I can highly recommend it!

Stunning location

I am no quite sure how best to describe hacienda Buenavista. A small boutique hotel, a fantastic b&b a working hacienda with some rooms?
Whatever one calls it, it is a wonderful place to relax. The rooms are large, well appointed and very quiet. We had the front room with a fantastic view over the valley and the river and lovely balcony.
The staff and of course the owners (in our case their son and his wife) were fantastic. The food, although a bit pricy, was excellent. Plenty of options for vegetarians and vegans which are off the menu. 
The infinite pool overlooking the valley is fantastic and heated. 
We enjoyed very much the free tour of the farm.
Just remember that there is not much to do or see in the immediate vicinity of the hacienda and whilst they can organise tours for you, we found it very useful to have hired a car at the airport. Driving in Colombia is easy and one can use Waze offline. 
Highly recommended.

All I can say is WOW, WOW , WOW!. This place was perfect. Amazing views, service and food.

Simply Amazing!!! 

I won’t repeat the glowing remarks made in previous reviews; they are all true (view, service, rooms, ambience are all incredible).  This is a very special place and you should do yourself a favor and book at least 3 nights there.

We spent 4 nights at this beautiful hacienda which happened to include December 7th, one of 2 nights of Dia de las Velitas in nearby Quimbaya.  This is a spectacular display of Christmas lights which is not to be missed.  We visited several towns in the “Coffee Region” and they all had fabulous displays of Christmas lights but this one in Quimbaya was numero uno.

Prior reviews mentioned the gracious hospitality of Floris (Dutch) and Lynn (Scottish).  The hacienda is now run by Floris (son of elder Floris) and his wife Alejandra (Colombian).  They could not have been more helpful or gracious.  They are assisted by the affable Juan.  They all live on-site and one of them is always available. 

We booked all of our travel in Colombia in a package through Amakuna (HIGHLY recommended agents in Medellin) so we don’t know how much we paid for the room but whatever it was it was worth it.  We had the Ceiba Suite.  All of the rooms have great views over the valley and the mountains but the Ceiba Suite probably has the best views as it is located on the corner of the building so there are views out in two directions.  This is a large room and includes a sofa. 

A prior review mentioned the road condition but we found it to be fine and shouldn’t deter anyone from staying at this lovely retreat.

Outstanding - do yourself a favor and stay here

My wife and I stayed here on our honeymoon - we were looking forward to this as one of the real luxuries of our trip around Colombia, and yet everything about this place exceeded our expectations. The building, despite being recently built, remains true to Spanish colonial architecture (with some modern touches) and everything is really focussed around this other-worldly view of the mountains. The rooms are stunning with real attention to detail, and are extremely comfortable. It also possesses the best infinity pool I have ever seen! We felt very spoiled by the service provided by the owners and staff, and chef Luis gave us a truly memorable, and very much bespoke gastronomic experience throughout our stay. I really can’t recommend Hacienda Buenavista in strong enough terms - the only reason it isn’t on your bucket list is because you haven’t heard about it yet!

Absolutely stunning in every way

Even the most experienced traveler will understand that there is something very special about Hacienda Buenavista. Located in the heart of the Colombia coffee region, it might not be the easiest place to get to (the roads can be tricky), but the travel logistics pay off immediately.  Hacienda Buenavista is family-built, owned, and run, but make no mistake - this is a 5 star property and an off-the-charts experience.  One conversation with the proprietors and you will truly understand the care and thoughtfulness that goes into maintaining the Hacienda and providing their guests with unparalleled service.  This is our second visit to the Hacienda.  Neither one of us is from Colombia and our Spanish is "suficiente" at best, but we have now visited Colombia twice - both times organizing our trip around Thanksgiving at Hacienda Buenavista.  Now, that may sound odd as Thanksgiving is unique to the United States; however, one mention of it to the proprietors and year one, pumpkin soup and pie appeared on the menu.  Year 2 - roasted chicken, fruit sauce, goat cheese, green beans, and mashed potatoes.  Plus, another homemade pumpkin pie.  The property boasts five beautiful hotel suites, private nooks in the common areas, an infinity pool and hot tub, and walking trails over the entire property and farm.  There is also a private chef who cooks with all local ingredients.  We truly love this property and hope that this review attracts guests as thoughtful and interesting as the proprietors.    

We Organized Two Vacations in Colombia Around our Stay at Hacienda Buenavista

Spectacular service, incredible views, beautiful rooms and hotel, and amazing food/drinks. It was a splurge for us, but it was WORTH EVERY PENNY. You won't regret a single moment here. Go for it!

We stayed in the Ceiba room - even the bathroom made us feel like royalty. It has a beautiful, private wrap-around terrace where you can hang out if you don't feel like hanging by the pool. Best chocolate mousse and banana cake we've ever eaten. I just can't say enough about the service and attention to detail. A true treat.

Luxurious

This idyllic spot high up in Coffee Country allows the visitor the best base from which to enjoy this area.  Lynn runs this hacienda with a grace and warmth which envelops all her guests.  The interior manages to be cozy and stylish at the same time.  The food is delicious - so fresh and with a delightful menu.  What adds to the feeling of being 'at home' is a very flexible kitchen open to dietary requests as well as meal times....And  hosts who are ready and willing to welcome their guests to their home and farm in an area they know and love. 

Home Sweet Hacienda

I had read all the great reviews coming into our stay, but believe it or not, it was even better than I expected!  This place was a little bit of heaven for our 3 nights in the Coffee Region.   First, Lynn was the most gracious host we have ever encountered.  She made us feel right at home the minute we arrived and it continued the entire trip:   from having dinner waiting for us at 10pm on our first night to setting up a special table outside for dessert the second night as the stars were unbelievable.  We also loved just chatting and hearing her stories!   Second, the location was breathtakingly beautiful.   We arrived late at night so didn't know what to expect, but the next morning seeing the clouds rise over the mountains was spectacular.  And you can't beat watching sunset in the infinitely pool/hot tub (of course with a cocktail in hand).   Third, the food/chef was outstanding.   I loved the fresh avocado & orange juice (from the farm) every morning and for dinner the chef made me a special vegetarian option (definitely request the local beans & rice!).    Do yourself a favor and make your way to the Coffee Region in Colombia and stay at Hacienda Buenavista!  And Lynn thanks for making it such a special stay for us!
