No refrigerators. No swimming pool. No guest laundry. No drinking water in rooms. Worse - no drinking water with meals at breakfast - only hot boiled milk or hot coconut milk.

We stayed three nights. Tonight we went for a walk, and they would not let us back in and yelled at us and waved arms, because not one person speaks a single word of English, and they wanted "some" proof that we are guests there before they'd let us in and we were supposed to somehow prove it to them. One of our party did not walk with us, so we did not bring a key we could show them. Turned out very rude and unpleasant and spoiled the evening. Why do I need to pay money, let them photocopy my passport and then they'd yell at me demanding some kind of proof? Btw, we're not suspicious-looking - they were yelling at a regular American family = two parents and a daughter.

Disappointment even though looks cute

A very interesting 700 year old walled city, which is well worth a visit. As you would expect it is very popular with Chinese visitors who are were as interested in us as Western visitors as they were the city. If you are a tall white westerner expect lots of “hellos”, selfie requests and comments about how strange you look!
The city itself is very interesting but be aware it is is full of many tourist stalls and shops. You can walk the wall to get away from the crowds which gives a good view of the city. Try and visit on a weekday as it is very busy at weekends (although anything but quiet at any time)

The place to visit if you want to feel like a minor celebrity!

If you need aasistance to carrry your luggage up to the second floor, then dont stay here. 

Facilities are reaaonally good although the bathroom is very small. The rooms are clean. 

wifi is only availabe at the reception area. 

Breakfast is lousy. 

Location is superb and is inside the old country.

Hotel is well located near the southern gate entrance. It is a nice charming place. The toilet is very basic. The water is hot enough. Rooms are basic but ok. Breakfast is very crowded. In the morning, the gate is open for a more direct route to the breakfast room.

Good location

The hotel has a decor that matches the ancient feel in the Pingyao Ancient City. It is very unusual. Apart from the hotel surrounds, the rooms are furnished with an ancient style bed, plus other old fashioned items. I stayed there one night. It is the best way to see the large ancient city ie enjoying the night scenes and night life as well as the beautiful street scenes in the early morning. Great for taking photos, including sunset. There are no lifts but the hotel has only two levels. The room is reasonably well equipped and is comfortable, with air-conditioning. From the hotel I walked around the main streets until I reached the North Gate. It was a long but enjoyable walk. Took a kind of tuk-tuk back to the hotel for RMB 20. The driver drove around the dark and bumpy back streets but it was fun. I studied the city map well before visiting and felt confident that the driver was doing the right thing. The next morning, I got up early and walked out of the hotel to see the quiet but beautiful streets, under the rising sun. There were very few people then and it was great for photography. The hotel is situated in the heart of the ancient city, hence most of the main attractions are within easy walking distances. After breakfast, the tour guide took us to see the first bank of China, the court house and up to the wall of the city where one could view the ancient city from an elevated level. Again that was great for taking photos. Unfortunately there were big trees blocking the view of the South Street (most popular with the tourists). The stay at the hotel was a great experience.
