Very good
14 reviewsI stayed in a sleeping pod which had a thick comfortable mattress and are actually pretty good size (maybe not lengthwise if you are really tall!) as you can also keep some of your stuff inside them and still have plenty of room to sleep. It’s also much quieter than a typical hostel – so you can stay in a room with a lot of pods (cheaper) and get decent sleep. While the men’s bathroom had an adequate number of urinals, toilets (4+) and shower stalls (around 5 I think), they were only clean right after they had been cleaned as there seemed to be a lot of drain problems (e.g. some sinks and showers having semi-clogged drains). They really need to make more of an effort to clean the bathrooms several times a day and somehow deal with or monitor the drain problems better. At least there is soap and shampoo in the shower stalls and soap by the sinks. There is a main open communal area (warm during the day as it has a glass ceiling) where they show movies at night. There is a small “store” with what appears to be water thermos where you can get water – if you have your own thermostat. The front desk staff can speak passable English and will try to be helpful. There is also a giant picture in the lobby of the West Lake as well as a tourism office around the corner to get maps. The Internet generally worked good (it might slow in the evenings when everyone comes back to use it on their phones) and I could upload pictures. The Internet also generally worked ok in the sleeping pods albeit not as good as in the communal area. The hostel is half a block off the pedestrian Hefang Street (shopping/eating) and probably a block from the nearest spot a taxi can drop you off. It’s a bit of a hike from the nearest metro station if you have a lot of stuff or wheeled suitcase (but doable) and it’s a hike to the West Lake (I walked around the entire lake…) BUT Hefang Street is great for food. Literally right by the hostel there are two small, I guess you can describe as hawker courts with everything you find up and down the street concentrated in one area.
