On a recent business trip to Vancouver, I extended my visit by three days to visit friends who live there. I stayed at the Maple Beach Bed and Breakfast for the extended three days of my visit. I enjoyed it very much. My room had its own bathroom; the breakfasts were the right size, the place itself I found to be charming. The bed was comfortable, the wi-fi was included, and reliable. The location, however, was GREAT. It is located in the Kitsilano neighborhood, which is a very desirable location. It is about a 10 minute walk to Granville Island. There is very easy to access public transportation very close by. A ten minute walk away is 4th Avenue, which is great for shopping while going for a stroll, and also has lots of good eateries, and more excellent public transportation. The host and hostess at Maple Beach Bed and Breakfast are very gracious people, and, if you need to leave your luggage for a few hours after checkout, they accommodate that as well! And the price is very reasonable! I will stay there again in the future, if possible!

A Great Place to Stay

Very pleasant, welcoming owners; comfortable beds; quiet, convenient location. What more could you ask for in a B&B? I do have some suggestions (not really criticisms): if possible, they could cut down on the rules that are stuck to the walls in many rooms, covering everything from locking the front door to warning of a fine if "excessive" paper blocks the toilet. There is also quite a bit of damp around window frames and a slightly musty smell. Apart from that, all good. 

Pleasant mid-range accommodation 

This B&B is in a great location in Kits with easy access to Downtown and the beach.  Plenty of eateries within easy walking distance.    The house is old and rather run down and in desperate need of some re-decoration.  During my first stay the room on the first floor had a comfortable bed.  The facilities were pretty basic with a TV that did work but was a museum piece.  There was a fridge that worked.  The electrics were interesting with one extension with about 6 outlets.  I toured for a bit and then returned to one of the attic rooms which was in a parlous state with cracked and broken bath room tiles, a walk in shower with a filthy curtain, and the bed was comfortable but felt a little damp.  There is no choice for breakfast but they had to cater for my coeliac and no dairy diet which meant I had some sort of egg frittata or nothing.   There is a faint smell downstairs - reminiscent of a carehome for the elderly.     Patricia diid the minimum that I would expect in terms of welcome.  I only saw Kim once but at least he did smile.  In a nutshell if you want cheap accommodation (and for the area it is very cheap) and don't mind roughing it a bit it is fine.   I would worry a bit about the risk of fire from the potential overloading of electricity system.  I would not stay there again even though the location is perfect for me to visit family.

Great location but very run down

Stayed for 3 nights in June Maple Beach is in a great location close to all amenities.  However basement suite was very dated and somewhat tired looking.   Outside area was very untidy and not particularly welcoming. Toilet did not flush properly.  Breakfast was okay but not the best.

Good Location but in need of an refurb!

I stayed at this place twice because it was near where I was doing my yoga certification. I booked through booking.com and after the first visit, five days in November 2017, I was not thrilled with the experience. The hosts were not around much if at all. I had to do a self check in and things were very basic. I returned this month for three days and this visit was terrible. Again the self check in with the owners know we’re on the premises. I got to my room and I had a quarter of a roll of toilet paper. I emailed but heard nothing back. I was traveling from Palm Springs California so of course I did not bring toilet paper with me. The next morning I decided to try the breakfast but the winter worker was nowhere in sight when I arrived at the point in our. She came in late which was a problem because breakfast is only served for one hour. I managed to connect with her and asked for toilet paper and an extra towel is they are very stingy with the towels. This place also has warning signs plastered everywhere in the room. A litany of things not to flush down the toilet is if people are idiots.And a threat that if the toilet gets plugged the guest will be charged. Paint was peeling from the ceilings and a tangle of electrical wires look dangerous. On my last day I came back from my course to find my door ajar. Apparently the woman who was looking after the place for the absentee owners Came in and emptied my trash in my bathroom and left my door open. I had my iPad in the room and luckily it was not stolen. When I wrote to the owner about this, I got a very nasty note back saying that I could leave whenever I want it even though I had one more night there. Luckily I did not receive this email until after I had left the next morning. I replied back That this was a very bad attitude and that if the owner had stayed in a hotel and found her door open she would not be happy either. She then wrote me back and this is what she said, which totally shocked me:
“We keep records of all your emails as prove of your rude, dishonest and despotic actions and defamation against us, our business and our staff. We will press charges against you and will follow and see you next time you enter Canada.”

This is clearly a person who cannot take responsibility for running a slipshod operation and likes to blame the customers. I strongly advise anybody to steer clear of this place. The only thing it has going forward his location, location, location. A true B&B has engaged hosts who try to make the guests feel welcome in or helpful, not absent as with my eight days of experience there. And then to be abused on top of that when I had a legitimate complaint and handled it in a normal manner. This woman’s response was over the top in verging on not very mentally healthy.When a person stays at a hotel or even more importantly a B&B which is supposed to be more intimate, the last thing I expected is to be threatened.

I contacted Booking.com and they were quite sympathetic and I are looking into this as this is not representative of the kind of properties they usually handle.

I read some of the reviews about this place and Booking.com and one woman had a similar experience to mine or her door was left ajar and when she mentioned it she was verbally bullied by the owner.
