The staff on the late shift are not the best trained and waited over an hour for our rooms after a long journey. That said we were put into a beautiful room over looking the ocean with a balcony which made up for it.

Haphazard check in

The room was horrible / spider webs in the corners / out dated, dirty and badly used furniture / the carpet stunk of old work boots/rotten feet smell / no amenities / no ice or vending machines, they did not work / plastic, cheap cups / the place left us feeling like bugs were crawling on us.

This is not a place to stay.

DO NOT stay here

A little bit outdated, but very clean and centrally located. app. a 10-15 min. drive to the BC Ferry. We had a spacious suite. Nothing fancy but okay. The views are not spectacular as you look into a bay, but nice. Parking is sufficient.  Not all rooms have bay view. You can easily reach the main street with shops and restaurants. Reception was a bit disappointing as we arrived at 3.00 pm. and were told by a bit unfriendly lady that official check in is 4 pm. not earlier- very process-oriented guest welcome. She was not very accommodating. At 4pm. we were greeted by a different receptionist and all was good. If you just need a room to sleep all good.

Good hotel for a short stay

Basic, comfortable and affordable accommodation in Port Hardy. Friendly staff.  

Cycled from Victoria to Port Hardy and only needed a couple of hours sleep before I returned to Victoria (500 km. each way).

Although the date shown is October, 2018, the REAL date of June, 2018 was not an option offered by TripAdvisor

Basic, comfortable and affordable accomodation in Port Hardy

By accident (as the first room door handle did not work we got an upstairs room with a great view. Awesome space and great price. Front desk was a riot as the midnight fetty arrived (with us) and it was a bit of a gong show with tired passengers and one person doing intake. All in all however things turned our and the view in the morning was a great treat.

Pleasant surprise and great room

Reasonable hotel close to lake pier. Clean, tidy and efficient.
No restaurant so you do need to walk 10 minutes to nearest place - the  Kwa'Lilas hotel which had decent food. Probably worth paying an extra $10 to stay there, rather than by the water.
Local taxi transportation firm Wavin Flags provided excellent transfer service from airport to hotel and (at 5.00am) shuttle bus to ferry.

Good one night stopover

When you make a Booking.com reservation, and have a confirmation, you expect that there will be a room available. We arrived at 4 pm to be told that there was no reservation and the place was full. The kid at the desk told us he was a new hire & he was flustered. He called his boss who wasn’t on site. They fiddled around with their computer, the boss called to offer a different hotel but left it up to the kid to arrange. The first place alternative was also full. After wasting our time for more than 40 minutes, we were sent to the Kwa’lilas, a first class hotel with competent staff. It’s a more expensive place, but because of the mistake we were given a room at the same cost. Nice compensation. Thank you manager Paul for your kindness and help. 


They stood us up

If you are planning to stay in Port Hardy or go on a kayak trip then you should consider this place.  While they do not serve any breakfast, there is plenty of free parking around the hotel and you can leave your vehicle in their lot while on a trip.  Very near to downtown, great location.  The rooms are standard hotel rooms but clean.

Right on the water next to the Government Docks

This hotel was clean and comfortable and located right in town and near the pier. The only downside was the reception we received when we attempted to check in.Granted, check in was at 4 but the place was not busy and fairly empty. The woman at the desk was not at all friendly and simply stated that 'check in is at 4'. She might not have meant to, but she made us feel very unwelcome and unfortunately coloured our entire opinion of this fairly nice hotel. The young man who ultimately checked us in was not much better in his customer service skills but he did at least have a smile for us. Can't say, I'd recommend staying here and perhaps somewhere else might be an option for a BC Ferries vacation.

First Impressions Matter

It was ok. It met our basic needs. It looks like they’re trying hard to make improvements. Superficial updates like paint and bedding have been done. Inadequate wiring (like plug-ins and outlets for phone chargers). Location is next to a beautiful pier, but is also in sketchy part of town where we didn’t feel safe leaving any valuables in the car. 
Staff were friendly and helpful. One ice machine that was out of order.
