Gîte au Toit Bleu

Loulou is a wonderful host. Breakfasts were incredible, works of art, and food that I would never have thought of (like strawberry-rhubarb mousse). Houseplants everywhere, and very "homey", which I thought was great. Loulou was helpful in recommending places to go and see, and sharing the history of the island. If you tend to be up-tight and inflexible, it's probably not your kind of place. Not to everyone's taste, but if you just kick back and enjoy the eccentricity of the place, you will love it.

I know I started off with the second b of b&b, but the breakfast really was the best on our 4 week trip. Loulou is incredibly hospitable, and made our continually delayed arrival as easy as possible for us so we could immediately leave on a bicycle ride around the island. We enjoyed the fascinating decorations from her travels. We stayed in the mauve room, which was small, but it was fine for 2 people for a short stay. There is bicycle storage and a refrigerator for guests to use. We would love to stay here again.

I don't know if this would matter to anyone, but while there is a shared toilet upstairs where the guest rooms are, the shower is downstairs. Mind you, it is a very nice bathroom/shower.

As for Pub le Mitan, aka Microbrasserie d'Orleans, next door, we were far from impressed with our meal. I recommend eating elsewhere on the island, although I don't think many places are open late.

We had a womderful time suring our 4 day stay. My 2 boys (4&6) and I had the Gold room with a Queen and 2 single beds. The room was lovely and decorated with Loulou's, the owner's, elcletic travel items. It was quiet and has a fully private bathroom. 

Loulou cooked wonderfully fresh breakfasts which were different everyday.

The property is borders the waters of the St-Laurent seaway and has an apple orchard and a garden. Tons of native birds too!

All the properties on the island are on well water, which has a bit of a sulfur smell (another review wrongly described this...) , so the owner supplied us with fresh drinking water. 

We took a whole day to enjoy just the property, hang a hamac, relax and let the kid's run and swing. 

The owner Loulou was kind, welcoming and a kind soul!!

A delightful little find. Loulou is an artist with many and varied interests. Our room had a busy African theme but provided everything we needed. The house is set in a lovely piece of property and is next door to a good pub. This was a convenient walk to supper after a long day in the car. One thing to note is that the GPS service on the island is difficult and there has been a change in the street numbering system. Make certain you have the correct address in hand when finding the B&B.
The prepared breakfast was exceptional. Checking out the kitchen assures one the meal is going to be above expectations. 
Loulou provides good support and information. She is very knowledgable about the island.

Colourful little B&B on Ile d"Orleons.  Loulou, the owner, opened her B&B for us midweek when we called, despite being in the midst of planning a huge weekend gathering.  Our rooms were decorated in bold colours with interesting collections of Asian artwork and decor throughout.    The beds were comfortable and our room looked out over the pretty front and side gardens. The ensuite bathroom was small and because there was a bit of sulphur smell to the water.  (The entire island is on a well). The house is decorated with interesting 'chachkas' that Loulou has picked up during her travels - we enjoyed listening to her stories.   Breakfast was fabulous; small yoghurt with fruit, good coffee and delicious french toast with local maple syrup.  We would definitely stay here again.
