We’ve read some of the reviews and staying at Black Gat Guest Ranch is more than it’s amenities combined. From day one we were welcomed into a very cosy, rustic home with a gorgeous lobby area, filled with tapestries, a range of backpack foods (to grab & go for free!) etc… True, the rooms are not overly complex (though the wi-fi’s great.) But you’ll be hard-pressed to find a location with this much character overlooking such a beautiful view.

The owners are delightful and the breakfast is more than delicious. A long table filled with juices, coffee, handmade scrambled egg/bacon oven dishes (veggie as well) hash potatoes… if you like oven dishes, you’ll love it here. And if you have a sweet tooth: try the freshly made carrot/banana cakes with icing!

We found this to be our most memorable stay / the perfect homebase to take excursions from during our trip.

As authentic as it gets.

The breakfast was great especially the mini cinnamon buns. The disappointed part was the staff. The chef was quite rude with our kids. She seemed not welcome the kids at all. When we were trying to get some food in the lobby. The staff yelled both my kid and my friend’s kid. “They are not allowed to touch the food here”. When we brought this issue to the owner he responded as it’s our policy for food handling. I totally understand that but maybe with a manner? Will never ever go back for sure!

Not a pleasant trip

Nothing fancy but a homey mountain getaway on the foothill of Mount Solomon, away from the crowds in Jasper. Perry and Amber, an accomplished author herself, have owned and operated Black Cat Guest Ranch for many years, and they built all the extensive hiking trails on Mount Salomon themselves just footsteps from the ranch building, which means you don't have to drive anywhere to go hiking. Mount Solomon is clothed with spectacular autumn colors in the Fall. Breakfasts are hearty and substantial and you can go for seconds, which means you can only do two meals a day, a big breakfast at Black Cat and a good supper in Hinton, which is 15-20 minutes drive down the mountain. Snacks like pies, cookies, and muffins, as well as tea and coffee, are provided free of charge all day and night. Unfortunately Black Cat Ranch doesn't offer trail rides on horseback anymore. If you are travelers looking for places and roads less traveled, I would highly recommend Black Cat Guest Ranch. Mind you, the room we stayed in looks old and does need renovation, but it was clean, quiet, the beds were firm, shower was good, and you can catch beautiful sunrise colors in the morning.

Hearty Brakfasts and 20 Some Hiking Trails at Your Footsteps.

Amber and Perry are fantastic hosts. A big comfortable lounge area to rest in and hot drinks/fruit/cakes available at all times. Delicious varied breakfast and some nice local walks mapped out. Friendly staff who were helpful at booking horse riding for us. Room was fairly basic but very clean - would definitely stay again if we return to beautiful Jasper! 

Great, quirky and comfortable place to stay

the rooms were kept so clean!!!!  even under the bed. i was impressed with the variety of food options for breakfast. the staff was so friendly and accomidating,  i loved seeing all the history they show in the pictures- i hope they post more - it was great to meet so many wonder people from so many places around the world.  we all sat and got to know each other while sipping wine and looking at each others adventures of the day on our cameras. there was no bar or lounge but nice to be able to bring our own spirits.
the beautiful scenery is something you can't even imagine you have to see it for sure.  i look forward to going back one day.

weekend get away

I never had an opportunity to stay here. I had a 5-day reservation that I had to cancel on the day of arrival because I was in a traffic accident. The owners returned my deposit! I cannot express how grateful I was considering my mental state after my accident. I hope sometime in the future to visit them and thank them personally for their graciousness, sympathy, and understanding!

excellent hosts

We stayed 3 nights there. During this time we had no room service. In a sheet in the room we were informed that room service is only every third day. 
What was worse, was that the Wifi was down all the time, and cell phone reception was almost not available.
The only thing we can recommend was the excellent breakfast, but it was only served between 8:30 and 9:30 am.

We would not have booked this stay, if we had known this before.

Vacation

Google map navigates perfectly to the location irrespective of the time of arrival. We reached late so the office left a letter and our keys at the front desk. We called a few hours in advance to inform about our delay, the lady at the front desk told us no problem enjoy your drive in. We are early risers met Perry the ranch owner preparing breakfast so helped ourselves to some coffee before time. The breakfast which was included was sumptuous.  Perry and his wife Amber are wonderful people. Had some wonderful conversations on Bear conservation, forest fires, climate change etc. We met other couples as well from across the world. The dogs are super friendly and can come with you on a trail if you want. We loved the ranch experience waking up to an early morning due and horses. The location worked perfectly as the road from Jasper to the Ranch is known for sighting animals, we saw grizzly bears, Elk, mountain goat and moose. People from across the world come here, and I would definitely come back again. Perry and Amber are wonderful hosts, kind and helpful.

No horses no animals at all  what kind of ranch is this  they should change the name   a  few years back they served 3 meals   and it was fresh and hot   where do they expect people to go  for lunch and supper   drive all the way  to jasper or Hinton   that costs a lot of money  going to and fro  just to eat   gas is not cheap

What happened

Not what we expected.  Translate quaint to delapidated.  Part of the steep front steps were held up with a strap attached to the porch railing.  We expected just a few steps along the side, but after getting up those there were some more to navigate the rest of the property.  It would have been very difficult for the automated scooter used by one of our group.  The decking feels squishy in spots.  The bed and bath linens are clean but thread bare. The proprietor was very nice, but still charged when we did not find the place wheelchair accessible, so not that nice.
