I spent nearly a week at Odoya Bed & Delicious Breakfast during World Cup 2014.  I have to admit, when I first arrived late at night, my impressions of the neighborhood were a bit skeptical.  (Granted, that's often the case when arriving at night anywhere new and unfamiliar.)  In reality, the neighborhood of Itapuã (an oceanside town about 10 miles from downtown Salvador) is a calm, laid-back area, and Odoya is just a 5-minute (and downhill) walk to the waterfront.  

A decent number of seaside bars and restaurants (a place called Alerta was my own favorite) from which to choose in the immediate vicinity, as well as a grocery store and even a local outpost of popular sandal retailer Havaiana, all between the water and Odoya.  I tried my first taste of acarajé, a typical cuisine of the Bahia region (black-eyed pea flour that's been deep fried into a fritter and topped with hot sauce, shrimp, and a pico de gallo of sorts), at a popular street vendor that's also just a couple minutes away from Odoya.

Itapuã is still a pretty major location within the region, so lots of buses (both municipal and smaller, "privately run" services) connect it with other major destinations within Salvador, often traveling along the waterfront for what has to be one of the more scenic public bus rides in the world.  

It's about 25 minutes to the north for the lovely Praia do Flamengo, maybe 20 minutes south to some of the closer-in beaches like Pituaba, and about 50 minutes to an hour to the south for downtown Salvador, Barra, and the Pelorinho "old town" districts.  We had no problems getting to the destinations we wanted to visit (including Arena Fonte Nova where the World Cup matches are played), though like I said, it's quite a bit longer to downtown and the stadium from Itapuã.  

Sonya and Alex (the couple who run Odoya) are very friendly and can give plenty of tips on what to do, where to go, etc.  The facility itself is very efficient - see my pictures and the others in TripAdvisor, which are very accurate in depicting the layout of the different rooms available.  

My friends and I stayed in one of the three-person private rooms with our own bathroom and TV.  I enjoyed spending time on the screened-in front balcony every morning and evening, when there's a nice breeze coming in from the water (and in our case, fluttering the hundreds of yellow and green streamers that cris-cross over the streets in celebration of the World Cup).  My only advice would be that there is in fact warm water in the showers; you just have to adjust the switch atop the shower head - I didn't figure that out until day 4 of my 6-day stay, so by then I'd just gotten used to taking refreshingly cool showers, so it was all good!  Wi-fi is good, too.

If you're planning to spend more time at the beaches than you are in downtown Salvador, this is a great location from which to do so.  Plus, if you want a really laid-back vibe, you'll find just that in Itapuã. 

Overall, I would recommend this place 100%!

Review of Odoya B&B in Salvador (June 2014)

Great cost/benefit for this simple, clean accommodation at Itapuã Beach in Salvador. We stayed there for 3 nights and enjoyed the excellent customer service and delicious breakfast made by the owners. The neighbourhood has a lot of character and is an interesting mix of people. Odoya is close to Itapuã Beach and Acarajé da Cira, one of the most famous in Salvador. We went for long walks at Itapuã beach and other beaches nearby, maybe fancier and with more expensive hotels. There are many buses to take you anywhere in Salvador. Note that it is not near downtown, it would be one hour on the bus to Pelourinho, but it is close to some of the famous beaches in the north, like Praia do Forte and of course, close to the airport. Odoyá is an excellent option for a budget traveller or travellers seeking a more authentic Salvador experience.
