My partner and I had the pleasure of staying at Tallow Beach Houses over the New Year period. Our experience was mostly delightful, meriting a solid 4-star rating.

Pros:

	•	Serenity: The tranquillity of the location was a highlight. The soothing sound of waves crashing nearby and the chorus of native birds provided a perfect backdrop for relaxation.
	•	Comfort: The houses are well-appointed for a comfortable stay. We had peaceful nights’ sleep, undisturbed by neighbours, which is always a blessing.
	•	Location: Its proximity to the beach is commendable, offering easy access for those longing for a quick beach stroll or a day by the sea.

Areas for Improvement:

	•	Amenities: For the premium price paid, especially during a peak period, the provision of basic amenities fell short of expectations. The absence of beach towels was particularly inconvenient, considering our travel constraints. Additionally, the inclusion of more comprehensive toiletry options like body wash and shampoo would be appreciated.
	•	Connectivity: Improved WiFi is a necessity, particularly in an area with poor reception. This would greatly enhance the overall convenience, especially for essential communications like booking taxis.
	•	Renovation and Maintenance: While recent renovations are noticeable, there seems to be room for further enhancements. Attention to details such as door handles, fly screens, and overall cleanliness would elevate the experience.
	•	Check-out Expectations: The check-out process could be streamlined. The expectation to sweep floors, coupled with inadequate cleaning tools, seemed unreasonable considering the price point.

In conclusion, our stay at Tallow Beach Houses was memorable and enjoyable, yet there’s room for improvement to truly justify a 5-star experience. We look forward to seeing these enhancements on our next visit!

4 star stay


great spot and a favourite one for our family.   Just a happy place to be. so close to the beach and in a quite seclude cul de sac at the end of Sufflok Park. Highly recommend this but book early.  Unfortunately getting a bit out of my price range now that I need a 3 bedroom cabin.  My sons have been going here by themselves since they got their licences

Happy holidays

We ran a retreat at this venue and this is a review from one of our guests that stayed there.  We had to relocate her mid retreat and were assured by the manager that we would get a FULL refund for the room and a contribution to the AIRBNB we had to then pay for out of our own pockets after also paying for the room described.  (We got a partial refund as they are saying they offered to relocate the hosts of the retreat into the described room which our participants did not want as they considered the room unsafe.) 

REVIEW FROM GUEST:  Ceiling was damp to the touch in places.  For mould to be coming through the plaster board, there most likely would have been a thick layer between the roof sheets and the ceiling plaster as well.  The smell of the place was nauseating and the heater had to be run at 26 degrees, 24/7.  There was blood on the spare doona.  I have managed over 5000 residential properties and i have not smelt mould so badly ever.  Management of the place was appalling.

Damp, Mouldy & Smelly

The rooms are way overpriced for what you get. It’s awkward to get to. You must rent a car if staying here. The manager of these cabins is not very helpful. The state of cleanliness and care of the houses is questionable. BYO soap, shampoo etc because you won’t find anything here. They supply the absolute bare basics. The sound of the ocean is very loud, on windy days. However the beach is beautiful to walk along or have a quick dip. So over rated. Get far better value in air bnb’s elsewhere.

Poor value- look else where

This place is a gorgeous sanctuary, its so peaceful, only the wildlife disturbs you, bush turkeys, wallabies and the birds.  Stunning sunsets over the lake, the beach is out the back, and thats stunning too. 5 miles of white sand and huge waves, its a great walk into Byron and an Uber home! We will be back, lets hope its still available!

What a gem, we loved it here

We have a booking from Thursday 1st April until Sunday Saturday 10th. We tried to cancel the weekend prior because of a Covid outbreak in Brisbane, where our flights were arriving. The response was "early days, no border closures". A couple of days later cases were mentioned in Byron Bay. We were offfered $2,000 refund (half of the cost). Now advice is not to travel to Byron Bay and the owner of the property (booked via Airbnb) still refuses to provide a refund and says we shoudl have taken the $2,000 when it was offered. It's left such a bitter taste in my mouth I can't explain. nobody wants to cancel a holiday but to punish guests $2,000 because of aCovid outbreak is unseemly. We asked to change dates to later in the eyar and the owner did not respond.

A disgrace

Over the years We have stayed at these beach cottages many times and loved the location, Bush outlook and rather rustic accomodation. We always got on very well with the manager and never had any issues. 
We were recently very disappointed to have to cancel holiday booked for September due to border closure between NSW and our home state Victoria as a result of the COVID pandemic. We were even more disappointed when we were charged $150 administration fee for this cancellation. We gave notice as soon as we learnt borders had closed and we’re certain they would have been able to release the cottages. I also wrote a letter expressing my disappointment re this and received no direct response to my grievance. 
I’m a health worker in Melbourne - this was truely disappointing to see how not all Australians look out for each other. We have cancelled a trip to Europe this year due to Corona pandemic and all accomodation was refunded. Europe has certainly suffered more than NSW yet landlords were incredibly humble and understanding when we explained we were forbidden to travel. ... pity Tallow’s Beach Houses weren’t the same. 

Disappointed

We have holidayed at this property twice now and loved it. Excellent in all aspects, close to what matters with great access to the beach and bike tracks yet away from the bustle! This place is great for families and Suffolk Park is a lovely quiet neighbourhood with a set of local shops/ cafes conveniently located. Excellent alternative to B.bay!

Fantastic location, neat property and top notch hospitality!

Tallow Beach Houses at Suffolk Park was our ideal location for a weeks get away with our sons after a tumulitious year. We booked both 9 and 9A which were join together by a walkway/breezeway between the two houses. 2 adult sons stayed in one and another stayed with us in the back. A great deck stretched the width of the rear house and this is where we all congregated for meals and card games. 4 bedrooms 4 bathrooms clean beds linen and house. The only fault I found was there was only 1 salad bowl in each house. My advice take along some  cheap throw away salad bowls from the $2 stores. As well as small take away containers. There was never enough containers or platters for serving of food. No problem really as I went out and bought some. Just would like extra for next time we return. Our hosts where great and welcomed my sons back. It was there 12 th return visit with this place 

Family beach side Christmas get away

My girlfriend & I stayed for 3 nights last weekend. It was the perfect quiet location right on Tallows Beach. Byron centre is only a 10 minute drive & that suited us perfectly so we could retreat to our retreat! 2 very generous sized bedrooms with ensuites, & great outdoor areas for lounging around drinking champagne! My only recommendation would be a more comfortable sofa & larger TV. Otherwise absolutely perfect! Thank you :)
