Highly anticipated as a foodie local. Know it is new. Was busy mid week but we walked in. Young wait staff said she would find us a table. 30 minutes later other walk ins after us already looked after. No communication. Felt embarrassing frankly to be sitting with no idea of what is happening. Had two drinks and then walked aroubd with no acknowledgement. Not a great start. No organisation unlike Cliffy’s. Hope they get better organised as not cheap bar food.

Terrible experience of poor customer service

Well wasn’t this an “interesting” experience!

We had booked a table for dinner for last night (May 27th 2023) and had arrived about 45 minutes early because we thought that we’d have a drink at the bar. And that’s where the interesting things began.

We were seated at the bar waiting to be served. The barman was there alone and was clearly under a lot of pressure. He served some people at the other end of the bar and then asked the 3 young women what they wanted to order. The 3 women knew we were there first so my husband spoke up and said that we were here first. The barman seemed a bit uncomfortable, but it wasn’t his fault. But he then proceeded to ask us what we wanted, while telling us that there was normally 5 staff on and he was there on his own. He told us that he had been trying to make 3 cocktails for 10 minutes. But we got our drinks quickly and the 3 women were made to wait their turn. 

A few minutes later, a customer approached the bar to complain that all the meals that they had ordered had arrived raw. 

Then another customer approached and wanted to know where the $20 was that he had paid to book a table at the pub (yes, they hold $20 on your credit card to make a booking). 

The young barman, who clearly had a great work ethic, realised that he didn’t have any tomato juice to make the 3 bloody marys that he still hadn’t made. Then a woman approached the bar and asked where her bloody Mary’s were! She was very nice about it, and a staff member who could have really helped serve customers, was sent off to the supermarket to buy tomato juice!

We were really unsure about what to do - do we stay or do we go. We decided to stay, but just not order seafood in case it was undercooked. 

We ordered for 3 of us, 2 steak sandwiches, 1 gnocchi and one saganaki. The saganaki was truly delicious. I’ve eaten a lot of saganaki and this was right up there with the some of the best. My gnocchi was luke warm at best. Tasty, but would have been nicer if it had been hot. 1 of the steak sandwiches was “perfect” and the other was closer to raw, than medium rare. 

Our friend ordered a glass of wine using the QR code, but it never arrived. Even after telling the waitress about it, she never returned with a glass of wine for him. How odd. 

Will we return here? Absolutely not. 

Anything positive to add? The young bar man was truly earning his money and he really did appear to have a good work ethic. What an amazing hospitality worker he is, being wasted in a venue that doesn’t seem to know what they’re doing.

We Will Never Return. Ever.

About 5mins after we sat down a live band started playing less than 5m from our table. The music was so loud it was not possible to have a conversation with our friends. We asked for another table and were told there are no other tables so we walked out.

Music too loud.

Daylesford is a lovely and beguiling village, located in a pretty part of the world.

It’s a place which is well worth visiting, and the Daylesford Hotel is a great “value for money” accommodation option.

The accommodations are modern, clean and well appointed for the weary traveller, with a bathroom which punches well above its weight.

The pub is friendly and hospitable.

As a pub, they don’t serve breakfast, but they do place a “breakfast in a box” in your room, which includes cereal, juice and a breakfast bar.

I was very happy with my stay in this well located hotel, which offers traditional charm with all the weary traveller needs for a good night’s rest.

Friendly greeting upon entry and excellent customer service during our lunch time visit.  Waitresses ensured that we had everything and were happy with our choices.  Smiling faces makes all the difference and customers feel welcome .  The menu had a good choice and our food was delicious.  We will be back.

Highly recommended, cosy and friendly atmosphere

A beautiful hotel in the heart of Daylesford which serves some of the best pub food around. The parmigiana is excellent, lightly crumbed and fried with just enough toppings and accompanied with excellent chips and salad. The drinks list is huge, wine, beer and cocktails. Excellent service and friendly staff easily navigate the covid check in

The Heart of Daylesford 

You know how some Doctors don’t have any bedside manor, well that’s how our waiter behaved. Greg was very brusque, to the point & no time for pleasantries. The food was served in a timely manner, but over priced for what we received. The beef cheeks were to be served with Brussel sprouts & mashed potato. There was ONE sprout cut in half. The chicken coq au vin was one small drumstick, a small thigh & quite dry. $32 each.

Overpriced.

Dined with my wife on the balcony tonight. Beautiful views. Ordered the roast of the day being lamb. A third of the dish was pure fat. Sauces and veggies were great. Staff showed genuine concern and showed it to chef who clearly didn’t care. Not value as I mostly had veggies. Shame as this dish could have wowed. Simply replacing meat for fat would have solved this simply.

Fatty Sunday Roast

Great staff - we were there in NYE and the owner (name escapes me) took the time to talk to all the diners and make them feel welcome. Bar and floor staff very friendly and knowledgable about the food and drink. Good quality pub grub and not overpriced given the date and location.

Great country pub

Dinner tonight at the Daylesford Hotel. Our meal was pretty good and a couple of requests were gladly catered for. The food whilst tasty and well prepared, is basic at premium prices.

Staff were very friendly and attentive.
