Apartment Al Sur

The apartments Al Sur are owned by Karen Travel who operate out of Malargue in Mendoza Province Argentina. We contacted Karen Travel about 6 months in advance and were offered a package of 4 night in Al Sur and 3 day tours for my wife and myself, overall this represented excellent value for money. On booking we understood that the apartments each had a small kitchen, but on arrival all that was provided was a micro wave. Santiago, the owner who greeted us at reception told us that it was now not permitted to have kitchen facilities in bedrooms hence the provision of only a microwave. We were clearly in the low season as far as Malargue was concerned and the restaurant on the top floor of the Al Sur apartments was closed, so we were offered the facilities of the restaurant kitchen when we did not want to dine out, which proved more than adequate. The apartments are spacious, ours had a good bathroom, but the apartment itself was rather sparten. Some redecoration and some soft furnishings would go a long way to making the apartment more homely. The apartment was clean and was serviced each day and is situated on a side road which runs at 90 degrees to the main through road which is part of Ruta 40. There is a small but well stocked mini market in the same road which is literally 2 minutes walk away and since we arrived by car we were given the free use of one of the garages. Our apartrment slept 5, had one bedroom with a double bed and there were 3 bunk beds in the main living room where the microwave was situated. We suspected that because of thes additional beds the kitchen had to be removed. Santiago and his team proved to be excellent hosts and Santiago himself is a bit of a practical joker, so if he takes you on a tour you should not take everything he says at face value. Would we stay here again, yes, especially if we had the same deal.
