This is the second time we stayed in this lovely Inn.  I highly recommend it.  The breakfasts were excellent and the staff were very accommodating to our needs and schedule.  This time we also had dinner and were very pleased with the meals and selection on offer.  The room was lovingly decorated, warm and the beds were large and very comfortable.  I can recommend it unreservedly to anyone who plans to be in this part of Devon.  

Lovely Atmospheric Inn with Excellent Food and Service

Brilliant Sunday lunch at a very reasonable price. Had the three meats and masses of different vegetables with the sauces and gravy and feeling very piggish, as so delicious, went back for more veg, as all included in the price. Lovely friendly people behind the bar and a very friendly local type pub where there was a lot of laughter and we were made to feel very welcome. Had wanted to go to this pub for ages as passing by it seemed to ooze Thomas Hardy, our local claim to fame. Well worth the visit and hope to be the first of many more to come!

Carvery

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights recently to attend local wedding. Staff were polite, friendly and extremely helpful.

Food was excellent and the pub has a good supply of 'proper' beers.
Our room was clean and we wanted for nothing, would highly recommend.

Faultless service, friendly staff.

Went here for Sunday lunch and my wife and I have found a hidden  gem within a half mile from our home.
The landlord and team are very very friendly and made us feel very welcome. Food was all fresh and delicious. Great value and we will certainly return.

Great friendly service 

Myself and two colleagues stayed one night here. Lovely cosy rooms with plenty of hot water for shower / bath and comfortable beds. Spent evening welcomed by the locals in the bar and enjoyed the selection of gins and the great food. Fresh produce and the best ever chips!  Can’t fault the superb breakfast either. Warm and friendly staff that made us feel welcome.

Warm welcome. Brilliant food

This pub had a very old skool and cosey atmosphere. Whilst the service wasn't the quickest, the food was very good and the Poretti and Carlsberg Export lager was great on draught. I would recommend if you're in the area.

Great evening out

I arrived at this Inn at around 2330, I had rang the hotel earlier and they had been great and given me very clear instructions on where to find the key for my room and how to get there. Breakfast the next day was delightful and so was my evening meal. I spent two night at the inn and it was comfortable and very convenient.

Quaint & Quirky

An unspoiled very friendly unpretentious local country pub, that has, thankfully, avoided the tarting up of some developer. The pub is not by the main road, it's easy to find but just concentrate.
 It has a good selection of well kept local proper beer and a really pleasant place to spend time for a drink and something to eat. The food was good, inexpensive, and in sensible portions so you wont go home hungry. 
  Would certainly come here again if the opportunity arises.

friendly pub - good food

As an American, I like pubs - I like the intimacy and friendliness of pubs and the Half Moon should be that - it feels like it, but not so much in reality.  We had two visits during May, 2019, once for a meal and once for "a pint" with friends.    Our friends are locals and were not actually warmly greeted and we, "from away" were not greeted at all.  The Thatcher's Haze Cider was perfect on draft and poured to brimming full.
On our earlier visit, two days prior, my wife and I went in for dinner.   Dinner was not forthcoming because the owner, who also is cook, was still out playing cricket with his mates from London.   An inebriated part time employee asked if we would have some "sammages". and what kind would we like?  After responding that we weren't picky, we were served two pieces of cheap white bread, slathered in butter with approximately a two ounce piece of cold pork roast on each sandwich.   5 GBP for two and my wife didn't eat the bread.   I'm sure the place is better and I wouldn't discount it.....yet.   As an aside, there are no other pubs in Horsington and one would be better served in Wincaton.

Very nice "pub" feeling pub...but food can be mundane and not served regularly

My father arrived on Saturday evening for a family gathering and told it was the same night as the landlords 60th. I checked in at 7pm and found no milk in the room for a cup of tea. Flushing the loo, water came out the side on the floor, flaking paint coming off the wall in the bathroom. Through the evening the pub ran out of the only beer that wasnt gone if in the space of 1.5 hours. The guiness was bitter so went for whiskey. They ran out of that too an hour later. 8am the next morning he went for an hour and no hot water for a shower, stone cold!! There was no one available to talk to on check out. Very disappointed
