6 of us and one dog were staying in a cottage a few doors away so it was perfect for us. Sat in the bar area as had our dog with us. We ordered food in the restaurant which is an Indian. Food was all good, total bill with drinks was £72 . Bar staff and waiter friendly & other guests. Would of had a game of pool and darts but we had a busy day so will do when we return to the village next time

Week away

If you like entering a pub via the car park where there is a skip full of old rotting furniture, going through a bar where the swearing was non-stop, being frightened by a Staffordshire Bull Terrier not on a lead and running about, then being in a room next to an open door where so much smoke is coming in (to say nothing of the cold) that you can hardly breathe- you will love The Crown. We did not.

One word- horrendous.

Good value.  Super clean room and bathroom.  Despite a main road outside my bedroom, I did not hear the traffic and slept soundly. Friendly locals and good beer.  Convenient for Ross on Wye, about 4 miles. Look forward to staying next November.

My Second Stay

Fabulous stay, lovely village setting but close enough to Ross On Wye and the beautiful area to get out and about.  The staff and locals must be the friendliest in the UK and we cannot wait to go back.

STAYED FOR A WEEK

Decided to overnight in the Ross on Wye area at short notice, requiring a triple room, so it was going to be difficult. Luckily, we were able to book a room at the Crown. We were allocated Room 4. The one in the photo. Even with a twin and a single, there was enough room. It`s an old building, so allowances can be made. Yes, there was a damp smell as we walked in, but barely noticeable after a while. The beds were comfortable, although the single was a little on the slim side.  Being on the A40, there is a little traffic noise as the windows are n`t double glazed, but it`s not obtrusive. Although breakfast is not included, there is cereal etc available. 
We did n`t eat there, as my wife requires a gluten-free diet, but when we returned, we had a drink and a few of games of pool. The Butty Bach was in fine form.  
Overall, I enjoyed our stay. Every staff member we encountered was unfailingly friendly and helpful.  The room was clean and well stocked and good value for money.  The Crown Inn has it`s own character, thankfully, and I wish it was my "local".

Crowning Glory.

Stayed here for one night…thank god. You would have to go a long (long) way to find worse accommodation. However before I get to that I would just say that we did have a very lovely Indian meal here. This we did enjoy very much. Another positive is that the staff that we saw were all friendly and the pub is nice to have a drink in. That I’m afraid is where the positives end. We had a family room that someone has clearly tried to make nice and is facing a losing battle! I have NEVER slept (or rather not slept)  in a room that smelled that bad with damp. It made our eyes literally sting and took our breath away when we walked in. The windows do not open at all and it was like trying to breath through a wet stinking sponge. With the degree of black mould growing and general poor condition of the room I would say it’s uninhabitable. Some nice wallpaper will not mask just how bad it is. After a terrible night we left as early as we could. The fact that this is an old building is no excuse for beyond poor conditions. I’ve stayed in accommodation as old as this before this property needs a massive amount of refurbishment to bring it anywhere near up to scratch.

To break a long journey, booked a single night stay on 13th June.  Covid safety facilities adhered to, felt safe.  Quirky room, but super clean with equally clean bathroom in this historic inn.  My room number 2, is re-portably haunted, no bumps in the night as I slept well in a comfortable bed. Friendly welcome and friendly locals.  Bus stops outside for Gloucester and Hereford, I think every half-hour.  Village shop opposite.  Will book again for a stay in this coming September.  Thank you The Crown.

Good Value Overnight Stay

Saw the rebranding of this pub/restaurant from curry house to steak house. Booked a table for two today hoping for a nice steak lunch. ‘Sorry, no steaks at lunchtime, this is the lunch menu.’ I had ham, egg and chips. Delicious but a ridiculously large portion - I am a slim 60ish male, so very good value but wasteful, as I could only eat 1/4 of the chips and half of the excellent ham (my friend’s Border Terrier will have had a nice treat for his tea). Curiously, my friend had a steak and onion baguette (again, delicious) so why couldn’t we have had a steak and chips? Baffling. Anyway, the young lady barmaid/waitress was excellent.

Advertised as ‘Steak House’ ... as long as you don’t go at lunchtime ...

Went to crown for Sunday carvery with visiting family, baby and dogs. The staff couldn't have been more friendly or helpful and food plentiful and delicious.  We were given a table with plenty of room to cater for dogs and baby paraphenalia. Highly recommend

Great Sunday lunch

Visited here for evening meal, no longer Indian restaurant but an amazing steak house!!! Fillet steak and lamb chops both cooked to perfection, but beware portions are huge!! Very friendly, welcoming pub, locals saying hello on entering made us feel like we lived there
