Lovely location overlooking tile hung traditional Sussex houses, in the heart of the village. Excellent food, friendly staff. Convenient for the Rother Valley Railway.
We had an excellent meal and a good night's sleep.  Good modern bathroom too.

Great food.

We have been to the George several times before the new owners and always made to feel very welcome, like friends, and the we were always very pleased with the meal.  
Sadly, nowhere near the standard it used to be.  Hardly a welcome, just shown to our table.   9 small discs of very pickled beetroot and a little side  dish of dipping sauce does not make a beetroot salad.  Salmon fishcake was OK but I asked for salad with it and all came on a very hot plate.  Our cousin had sea bass which he said was bland.  To be fair, my husband had the chicken kebab which he said was good.  
No farewell or thanks for coming as we left - not that it matters because we won't be returning.

Sadly gone downhill

We were recently on holiday in Robertsbridge and had a couple of meals in The George Inn.  When making the booking for a meal I asked if they were dog-friendly and they replied they were 'Very dog-friendly', and so it proved.
As we had a nervous and reactive dog we asked to be placed in a quiet position and they kindly placed us in The Nook.  The staff came in regular and gave our dogs treated. Much appreciated.
The staff and service were excellent, and the food was delicious. I would also recommend the Hazy Days beer.
We really enjoyed our visits and would recommend the pub to anyone else in the area. 

Excellent & Very Dog Friendly

I checked into the George last  night because , like many people I had to abandon my car on the A21 in the bad weather. The reception by Jane the landlady was warm and reassuring. She and the landlord did all possible to provide shelter make all of us stranded people comfortable . All this despite a power cut !
The room was very good, attractively decorated and well equipped. 


A warm and safe haven in a storm.

My friend and I were invited to a local wedding and decided to stay for one night at The George Inn, and we couldn't have chosen a better place to stay.
The lovely, friendly staff made us feel so welcome, and our room was well appointed, spacious and spotlessly clean; the beds were the most comfortable I’ve ever slept in.  
All the staff are so helpful and attentive, and Jane found the time to speak with us during breakfast to check we were happy with everything during our stay.  The breakfast was plentiful and tasty.

Fabulous Stay

A welcomed surprise to go into a place for lunch with family, and you instantly feel welcome. You can feel it's family run and run it well they do. The food was of great quality and they use alot of local produce which I love. Walls filled with family photos gives  you the warm relaxed feeling and ambience and  that it's going to be a great experience...and it was. Thank you

A welcomed surprise

We spent four nights at the George during the Easter period and it was very pleasant and convenient for exploring a number of places (mainly pubs and gardens !) in East Sussex, which we haven't visited before.

They helpfully suggested we spent Tue-Fri nights as they don't serve meals on Mondays.We found out quickly that this is a popular place for locals to eat and the Friday evening was busy with customers there either to eat or meet for a drink. There was no lack of custom during the week either.

We made a fixed price deal for four nights and also ate in on two of the nights as the menu is wide, suiting both veggie and omnivore tastes. Breakfast was also part of the deal.

Service was excellent. The room was good although (as so often) we could have done with two chairs rather than one, and the lighting was poor for reading. 

Everyone was friendly and helpful with suggestions for places to visit and eat. There's a good buzz here. 

An excellent base for a short stay

We have just had the most amazing roast dinner, 
Great value for money, lots of food and Delicious! The staff were very friendly and welcoming! Highly recommend a visit here! If we didn’t live so far away we would certainly be regulars here!

We were just visiting the Preserved railway at Robertsbridge to drop off a donation of books and magazines , so decided to drop in for lunch--it was really busy so in all honesty, we should have booked-However they allowed us a table until another booking turned up. The food was excellent and all the produce was from  local suppliers / service was top notch and the ambience was Excellentllent also in lovely surroundings. No wonder it is so popular--we will definitely be back (and book next time )

Thank you again to your family for hosting and taking care of us this weekend, in extremely challenging conditions without any heating or electricity for the hotel, your own home and the whole village, during storm Eunice. 

Your rooms were pristine, beautifully furnished and tastefully decorated.
You went above and beyond to open your doors to accommodate us and to ensure that we were safe, warm, well fed /watered and as comfortable as possible. Chatting with the locals by the cosy fireside, after our excellent candle-lit dinner, meeting your family and some of your friends, gave us a rare glimpse of a genuine rural village community in action, which made our stay special and memorable. 
It really was 5 star service and hospitality.
