Baker's Yard Rooms

Rooms @ No 6 Bakers Yard. Stayed one night and wished it could have been longer, room was perfect , spotless, well equipped, comfortable and had a good shower. Alison met us at the time we requested and showed us round, a plentiful breakfast was left in the room for morning. Couldn’t have been better!

Our room was booked by my son and I did not really know what to expect. On arrival we were met by a lady who was very helpful and explained how to get in and out of the apartments.  It is worth explaining that this a complex of three or four rooms that are off of a bars courtyard. The courtyard is secured by a locked gate after the bar is closed. The lady did explain that the bottom door did not lock but our room did as did the courtyard gate fir which she supplied a key. 

The room was big, spotlessly clean and well appointed with a kitchenette area. She did provide some serials and other continental breakfast essentials so if you are expecting g a big English breakfast you will be disappointed.  Again all this was well presented  and there was even a microwave.  A really nice good size en-suite made this a brilliant clean and airy room, the only thing missing was a toilet brush. 

It may be that if the courtyard gets busy this may be noisy but that was not our experience as by the time we got back the bar was closed. I do think a light in the courtyard is important, it was  very dark when we walked through and some people may become intimidated by this. I was also perturbed by the fact the communal door was not locked, again not a huge issue for me as the gate was locked but may have felt differently if the bar had still been open.

In all a very comfortable say in a very nice room, thank you.

A clean and we'll equipped room

Difficult! I'm just not quite sure how to review this. The title says 'Baker's Yard Rooms' and I suppose that's what they are! 
The rooms are absolutely fine, clean, well serviced, clean towels. The breakfast was good, and the young lady in charge very helpful and friendly. We returned on Sunday at 7pm and the restaurant area was all locked up, despite saying it was open until 8pm. The access, down the side, to the rooms, we couldn't lock, so that meant anyone could have had access, which rather unsettled us. There are no night staff, security or emergency numbers, again, a bit unnerving. There are other rooms on the other side of the small courtyard, accessed through a lockable metal gate, but no lights at all at night, or security lights, so we were concerned for the safety of an elderly couple in our party walking through here late in the evening. 
We felt that night security and lighting needs to be improved. Being locked out of the restaurant until 9am as it was a bank holiday also seemed odd. 
 The tapas restaurant wasn't open at all, over a bank holiday weekend. 
Just seems an unusual arrangement. 

3 night stay

Booked an overnight stay mid November to attend a family party elsewhere in Oakham, arrived Saturday lunch and literally just put our bags into the room and left to go to our event. Arrived back late at night and followed the instructions for the side door. All went well and door locked after us as promised. 
Unfortunately when we arrived in our room the bathroom had not been cleaned, leaving a very dirty toilet and not a single towel in sight. No staff around to help so an uncomfortable night followed as it really put me off sleeping there. 
We found a member of staff in the morning who did give us some towels and we dressed and went to breakfast which was ok - not as nice as a previous stay in 2015. 
On paying the bill we asked to speak to a manager but no one was available and we were promised a phone call on the Monday but having left it several weeks I don't think we are getting any apologies now.?
As we are regular visitors to Oakham and often need a hotel room this was very disappointing and means I now need to source a new "go to" hotel/rooms when we attend family events.

Dirty bathroom

Went for breakfast with my daughter, cost us just over £17 for a full  english, (which consisted of 2 eggs, 2 chipolata sausages, 2 bacon, mushrooms, tomato and toast which was already buttered)  poached eggs on toast and 2 cappuccino - all I can say is NEVER AGAIN. We were really disappointed with the quality of the food, and surely toast should be offered with butter on the side? We will definitely not be returning.
