Stayed an overnight as attending festival in Dalkeith. Owner Ruth is an absolute delight & very accomodating. Rooms are spotless & decorated tastefully in keeping with the era of the house. Board is room only ,however rooms have tea& coffee making facilities & in the hallway is a large selection of free biscuits , fruit , juices , cereals , milk & specialist teas . A really thoughtful touch is a basket of toiletries, plasters,painkillers etc in both the bathroom & in hallway. This was our 2nd visit & would certainly go back 😁

Lovely , homely guest house

Stayed for 2 nights in September 2018 as we were attending a wedding locally.  The room we were in, Crichton, was spacious, with an en-suite shower room/toilet.  In the room there were many 'extras', such as bathrobes, slippers and bathroom toiletries not normally supplied by an establishment.

As others have said, breakfast is not supplied but a vast array of cereals, nut bars etc  are available at all times of the day.

Ruth, the owner, and her staff were excellent and nothing seemed too much trouble.  The gardens are beautiful and should not be missed.

Meals are available in 2 pubs and a restaurant in Lasswade but beware, the walk down to the village is very steep.  Close by, in the other direction (no hills!) is Bonnybrigg where you can find a supermarket, shops and a cafe.

We did not travel through to Edinburgh, but I understand that it is only 25 minutes away using the regular bus service from the bottom of the road.

We enjoyed our stay immensely.

A great place to stay

Stayed for 3 nights in the Crichton Room, a well presented large room overlooking the front of the property with a large king-size bed and a well sized en-suite. There is no cooked breakfast option but there is a vast array of snacks and breakfast items on the landing for you to help yourself to during your stay. The owner is very friendly and helpful nothing seems like to much to ask. one of the best stays we've had even better then some of the higher star rated,  
I wish the owners the best of luck for the future and hope to stay again in the future

Excellent

We have stayed here for 3 nights in the Crichton Room. A large room with a very comfortable King Size bed which has layers of bed linen including a top sheet,  which was ideal during the very hot weather we have experienced. Nice thick bedding and a heater is also supplied for cold winter days too. We bought a fan with us as we knew the weather would be warmer than usual.

There are lots of cupboards but most are locked. The one we have had access to has a fridge and shelves inside but very limited hanging space. If we were staying longer we would ask for more hanging space.

The room is very clean, light, homely and has a beautiful high ceiling (Georgian?). A big window overlooks the front garden.

The bathroom is light and roomy. Window does not open though. But there is an extractor fan in the ceiling.

The owner runs the b and b with very little help. She is a very welcoming, helpful, friendly lady. Nothing is too much trouble. She also told us about Culross - a place that is well worth visiting.

Although there is no dining room and she only provides a cold breakfast the landlady goes above and beyond what you would expect her to provide.

In the room we have found plenty of tea and coffee and a large amount of toiletries. The breakfast food/drink and snacks plus more toiletries are on the landing outside our bedroom door. Milk, water, fruit juice, numerous cereals, cereal bars, biscuits, savoury and sweet snacks and a large selection of toiletries are available. Ruth is very generous. I hope she still makes a profit. Perhaps she should charge for the toiletries and snacks? If you don't mind eating in your room you will be fine. We certainly got out earlier to explore.

Mount Ceres is situated in a very quiet suburb. Our stay has been very peaceful. I think its about 7 miles from Edinburgh. So easy to get to places. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would return if we came to Edinburgh area again.

A Little Gem.

A good-sized room, nicely appointed, excellent en-suite and clean.  Very helpful owner.  Cooked breakfast not available, but plenty of (complimentary) snacks provided on the landing outside our room, you just help yourself (cerials, drinks, biscuits, milk etc) - everything you could want for a light breakfast.  Good location for Edinburgh either by car or bus.  We enjoyed our stay very much and will return.
