We stayed here to break up a long drive to Cornwall, we didn’t arrive till 10 o’clock in the evening and the staff could not be more helpful. Greeted us on arrival with an understanding of why we were late. The room was very clean and exactly what we needed, breakfast was good and a lot of choice. The staff are a real credit to the hotel.

We stayed here for 4 nights comfortable room and very friendly staff.   Offered coffee immediately after we arrived

Service was good despite the pressures of reopening a couple of week before.  

Scrambled eggs for breakfast freshly made and among the best I have had.

The dinner menu varied and again to a high standard. 

Definitely performing above their 3 stars rating.

Great outdoor space with seating too

Enjoyable stay and good food

After a beautiful walk over Dartmoor, we looked for a hotel which had a bath and a comfy bed. 
Several google searches later and we found the Gipsy Hill Hotel. 

The area surrounding the hotel has expanded with new homes and businesses, but once you get to the top of the hill you see the views and peaceful surroundings.

Extensively expanded country house hotel. Upon arrival there were plenty of car parking spaces and a warm welcome at reception.  

We stayed in the Coach House room 29. Delighted with the very clean interior and shower over the bath.  

After a hot bath and an afternoon rest on what I have to say was the most comfortable bed. We went to Exmouth. 

Returning for a good nights sleep. In the morning we went for breakfast. The staff were very welcoming and quick to seat and serve. The included breakfast was a treat, met with a variety of options, cereal, toast, juice, English breakfast and on request other options such as scrambled egg on toast. 

Although some of the reviews talk about it looking run down. You can see where they have clearly made upgrades in the beautiful doors to the rooms and some of the smaller seated rooms/ bar. 

The garden is extensive and unfortunately lost on me as I do not know about horticulture. The information talks about the original owner being a horticulturist and  introducing different varieties to the garden. 

Overall and excellent stay and I will be booking again. The hotels website offers a variety of options. Although we didn’t dine in the evening the menu looked good. They have a great deal in November offering a free evening meal. 

I’ll be booking to come back.

Restful stay

Warm Welcome to our variable group over 3 nights,  several of whom were involved in events at Exeter Cathedral .
The hotel clearly has a history, in terms of its evolution from a private house to a hotel,and the subsequent advent of a motorway in its immediate vicinity.
Set in beautiful surroundings with spacious grounds there is a feeling of yesteryear when the house became a hotel. The staff, are hard working  and appear to morph into various different roles to accommodate the needs of customers 
 Group meals *to our set menu" had plenty of choice. Service was personalised and friendly. 
Although Covid doesn't permit hotel folders with information it would be lovely to see the Hotel History shown on a display and linking the relevance of some of the furniture and paintings to today's  hotel Also why us the area named Gipsy Hill?

Group weekend visit

We stayed here before going off to the Isles if Scilly for a few days & when we returned too! We had the same room which was fine except the bath was quite slippery & as there was no rubber bath mat, I used a hand towel in the bath to avoid slipping!
The decor is rather dated but in the whole, clean & comfortable. The downside which we thought was really bad, was the fact that I was charged the same price for a small bowl of custard as my partner’s sticky toffee pudding! ( which was served with custard) 
A cost of over £5.00 for a small bowl of custard was exorbitant! 
Moral of this story is - ask the price before asking for anything ‘off piste’!!

Could have been better

Just 4 minutes away from junction 28 of the M5 This hotel stands in it own grounds albeit you have to drive through a business park to get to it.
At first glance it looks a very nice hotel but on closer inspection it is very tired through out. The rooms are spacious and clean and bathrooms are modern.
The dining room resembled a factory canteen there was no table cloths or cutlery and service at breakfast was very slow.
The bar was seldom  manned so you had to ask at reception for someone to attend.
Could not fault the staff in anyway they were cheerful and helpful at all times

Week away

Went to  reception to check in, no one about, waited about 10 minutes before someone came. allocated room in the coach which was clean tidy apart from an old newspaper   in a bedside drawer.
W e were asked what time we would like dinner, which was from 6 oclock, we chose 6.
Again no one about, so we sat in dinning and waited,husband goes to find some one they eventually bring menus, short time later they swop menus, we had the wrong ones. Our choices were not on the new menus, what there was was not inspiring. We finally got our dinner at 6.50. 
Why ask what time you would like if they are not ready.
There was no problem with Breakfast excellent waiting staff.

An adequate hotel, but one night was enough. Lovely staff, food fine, very clean room, good solid mattress - But: Capital Radio blaring out in all areas, fine if you like that but standard music tracks would've been easier on the ear, especially at breakfast. Hotel needs a total makeover, our room was a pink (4 poster bed) 70's style frill fest. No tea facilities, shower pitiful, bar & dining areas just dull. So much potential being wasted.

Fine For One Night!

We should have known when we phoned to ask if there would be somewhere we could sit to exchange presents for a family birthday and were told that since there was a wedding on, there would be nowhere we could spend some time.
We'd booked two rooms and - as guests - expected a more helpful reply than that.
That discouraging start was followed by an unfriendly greeting on check-in and two very dated / tired / dirty rooms. (By dirty I mean, stained carpets, mouldy shower tiles, etc...). Grounds should be a feature .... but the grass hadn't even been cut. Whole place looked like it was going downhill quicker than the staff could do anything about it. Breakfast was average at best. Write-ups described this place as a "hidden gem" ..... I'm afraid not.!

Tired hotel ...... grim experience!

Stayed here for 3 nights room was room 21 probably the best in the whole place whilst clean the whole place was so dated I think Henry the 8th would of been out of place wedding on the Saturday which we knew nothing about was restricted to where we could go bear  in mind we had booked 7 rooms so wasn’t cheap breakfast was awful all kept warm on a hot bed but Dave the night Porter need a promotion he worked wonders for us all would I stay here again yes I would but I’d be asking questions before I booked
