Wonderful hosts cannot fault how welcoming Sarah and Gary are without being intrusive.  Absolutely amazing clean rooms with spectacular views. We had a sea view room with four poster bed everything was spot on from the moment we arrived until we left. Great quality breakfast so well planned with pre-orders fresh fruit salad, full English or eggs benedict  spot on. The location is great we would not stay anywhere else in this area. Thank you

Good quality throughout and fab hosts

Only a 2 night stay, would have been longer with hindsight. Nothing was too much trouble and the hosts were great. Great value. Breakfast was brilliant and the cleanliness was faultless. Difficult times but Sarah and Gary have got it spot on. Well done and thank you 😊

Stayed here for 4 nights. Quite hard to find the property as it’s above road level. There was no signage to either entrance so we ended up going into the wrong driveway which was really steep, with no turning space, so a nightmare trying to back down.  Luckily the very kind lady who lived there let us use her garage to back into so we could drive down, and she guided us out. 
Can’t understand why The Shoalstone can’t put signs up to make it clear where their entrances are.
After a 3 1/2 hour journey from Birmingham, we arrived at 1:30, half an hour before check-in time, so decided to let them know we’d arrived & were parked up.  Met by Gary who immediately gave us the keys to the property and our room, which was right by the front door.  He told us all the rules regarding COVID and asked us to choose a time for breakfast and explained the ordering process. I asked if I could use the toilet and he said no, due to COVID restrictions!!!  We were standing right in front of the room we were to occupy for 5 days!!!!!  We had to leave the property, go down to the beach area (quite a trek) use the public toilet, kill time until 2 pm, then trek back, when we were able to let ourselves into the property and our room - no sign of anyone - so we’d obviously already checked in!!!!  Sorry Gary - but I think you were taking COVID restrictions too far and I’m sure you could have let me into our room to use the loo!!!!! We had travelled from Birmingham, which you were aware of.  Not a good first impression! 
Lovely spacious, spotless, bright room with walk-in shower in bathroom.  Kettle, tea, coffee etc, and a bottle of fresh water.  Further supplies available on a table on 1st floor when required.  No hairdryer but I think you could ask for one.  I’d taken my own.  The smallest TV I’ve ever seen. 
The bed was king size double and soooo comfortable.
Completed the breakfast form & left it in the box.  When we returned later it had been pushed under our door with a note from Gary to say hubby couldn’t have porridge as well as a cooked breakfast as he could only choose ONE hot item.  So, he could have cereal but not porridge, presumably because porridge had to be cooked???  Seriously???? I’ve never come across anything like this in all my years of travelling!!!!!  Come on, Gary!!!  We’re the customers here, and paying good money. 
Still, we toed the line and didn’t make a fuss.  The breakfasts were lovely and served by Sara who was really pleasant and friendly and was a font of information about places to see etc. 
A bonus for us was being able to catch the bus right outside the property to the harbour and back, the No. 17, although only until 6 pm ish.  Saved the old legs, especially after walking round all day. 



Nice place to stay

Sometimes you wish you could write a bad review that stopped people booking here. That way there would be rooms for us when we want to book again! However, this was 10 out of 10. Sarah greetted us with a big smile and was a font of knowledge of the area. Bright clean and spacious room and a breakfast to die for. If only you could get that bacon now back home. If you book here you will not be disappointed.

Booked a long time ago but was worth the wait

We stayed here for two
Nights for a much-needed break, I chose this little hotel because of the amazing reviews on here and I can see why the reviews are so good. Our room was immaculate and with the most incredible view. It was very comfortable, clean and cosy, and breakfast was freshly-cooked with lots of choices in a lovely dining room overlooking the sea. Already looking forward to coming back in the new year and maybe spending even longer. Oh, and the eggs benedict were AMAZING!!

Lovely little b & b

We have just had an amazing three night stay here. Sarah is a fantastic host very friendly and welcoming. Food was great lots of choice for breakfast and all freshly cooked - porridge with cherry compote, poached eggs on toast and full breakfast were my choices. The room was beautiful good quality linen and towels with stunning sea views, mattress bit soft for me but didn't deter us getting a good nights sleep. We will definitely come back here

Fabulous Bed & Breakfast

Stayed at this lovely, pristinely presented, very welcoming B&B on the Berry Head Road.  From some of the rooms, you have wonderful views across the bay.  Parking on site, which is a bonus!  In this current situation, having to deal with this awful virus, Gary and Sara make you feel both welcome and safe. So good to hear from them that they’re busy.  Breakfast is very tasty and all well planned. Your room number is also your table number, you select your breakfast choice from a menu choice, and then leave your choices it in the hallway the night before. Come down at your allotted time (which you keep to that time for the duration of your stay) when you arrive, you get given the time choices available.  Within 5 minutes of arriving at your table, your breakfast arrives - it works beautifully!!  We would, without hesitation, recommend The Shoalstone, the views from some of the rooms, the breakfast room and the shared lounge is superb!  If you’re considering it, don’t hesitate, go on treat yourself - it’s sooooo worth it!

Short break in Brixham

Sara and Gary are lovely welcoming hosts. The hotel is beautiful and I stayed in room 8 waking up with views of the sea and harbour in the morning. There is also a wonderful bay window in the communal lounge with fantastic views over the sea. It's also a great location to explore with only a few minutes walk into Brixham town. 
Thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Can wholeheartedly recommend.

Fantastic place to stay

Great stay at the Shoalstone. Lucky enough to have a sea view room with balcony (room 6). We arrived early, but was welcomed by Sara and given the keys to return later (didn't expect this, but a nice touch). 5* breakfast - honestly the best we've had in a B&B. The owners are doing a really great job under difficult circumstances. Social distancing measures are sensible but not excessive (e.g. Order breakfast the night before, booking a specific time, leaving bottles, tea cups from room downstairs for replacement etc). Would 100% return or recommend friends and family. Thank you so much for an amazing stay (we had our wedding cancelled so this was a much needed pick me up!)

Amazing visit to Shoalstone

Our 3rd stay in 4 years. Gary and Sara are the perfect hosts and nothing is too much trouble for them. They are friendly with some great local knowlege and are always interested in how your time in Torbay is going. The Shoalstone has fantastic rooms and views.The Shoalstone gets better everytime we visit. In my opinion they the best breakfasts you will get in a B&B or hotel. I  would definitly recommend this B&B, the best in Brixham.
