Trout cottage B&B is the most wonderful hidden gem. We stayed for two nights for our 1st wedding anniversary and walked some of the Brecon Beacons, enjoyed the local pubs and had a rest.

Hosts Andrea and David are accommodating and friendly, but not overbearing. They chatted to us and shared their home, including their beautiful dog Mojo and cats/kittens, but were also respectful of our space and allowed us to have our quiet independence. 

Bed was comfortable and amenities were way above par (including homemade soap!). The provided spaces (lounge, bedroom, conservatory) were spacious and homely, and it was heaven to come back to a good book in the lounge in front of a log burner with a glass of wine after a long walk.

Breakfast each morning was extraordinary. Local venison sausages, duck eggs from their ducks, homemade preserves and yoghurt - all of fantastic quality and presented well. 

I couldn't recommend Trout Cottage enough, it's a perfect relaxing getaway with lovely and conscientious hosts.

Perfect countryside escape

Trout Cottage is an unusually welcoming B&B, where you can lounge around in a cosy conservatory (weather permitting), explore the garden (where chickens and ducks roam free) and sit by the river watching dippers dip in and herons fly by. Other inhabitants include two cats who are happy to be stroked by guests and a friendly, non-smelly dog. And of course two amicable, helpful and chatty hosts. Their house sits at the head of a beautiful valley leading into the Black Mountains, with walks pretty much on the doorstep and the ruins of Llanthony Priory just 20 minutes up the road by car (stunning place!). Food is delicious and a lot of it is homegrown. The eggs come straight from the garden and taste nothing like your average supermarket produce. For breakfast see if you can get some marrow and ginger jam - you'll be amazed.
