Silverback Lodge

I spent my last two nights of my birding safari at this lodge; and what a splendid place to end my trip. The first thing I noted about the lodge on arrival, were the beautiful terraced gardens. The lodge is on elevated ground and overlooks the Bwindi Forest. The open reception area is absolutely beautiful, and I loved sitting there and listening and watching an array of different birds (the Ross's Turaco "resident" couple that I watched perch up on the trees, or take shade in the leafy hedge, were an absolute bonus). In the evenings, fires were lit strategically in the four corners, and next to two of the outside dining tables. What struck me about the place was the tranquility, which I welcomed after returning from a tiring session of birdwatching. The rooms were clean and spacious, with a wonderful large shower with functioning hot and cold water. There was bottled water provided, and what I particularly appreciated, was the mosquito net that was drawn across the room, rather than some of the suffocating types I have experienced in some other lodges that hang over your bed. Local beer, house wine, and soft drinks were included. The staff was very friendly and never failed to take care of me. It was definitely 'service with a smile'. Special mention is made here of Ignatius and Immaculate (Immaculate also does the massage), who were exceptional, and multitasked with ease. Not to be omitted is Ronald, who I will call the 5* Chef! The food was outstanding, and of a standard I could compare to many 5* hotels I have stayed in around the world! He always came to discuss the menu and adjusted it if necessary. He kindly offered to make local food on the last night, which I appreciated very much. I would not hesitate to recommend this lodge, and will surely return in the future! Bravo!!
